Giving this my best shot! Day 1

Hey BDB welcome to SSC. I hope this quit is a success for you, I was sorry to hear the doctor had brought attention to your breathing, however, sometimes its a scare like that which makes the decision to quit for us.
Can I just add, I quit with the patches, and was told by my medical practioner that not all patches suit everyone and if you are having problems with a certain brand of patch try another brand. Some have different ingredients/adhesives etc and you may need to try a few if you want to use this as a type of NRT.
Good luck whatever you choose though!

Hey Bugger -- A belated welcome to you!  Every day is better than the day before, as long as we keep our guard up.  I blew my last quit by thinking I had finally won the battle.  Not in this life, I finally learned -- but fighting the craves has become kinda fun, like working out at the gym.  Each little victory makes us stronger and better prepares us for the next g-round.
I hope it's still going well for you!

Welcome Buggerdb
This is going to be your last quit. We have great cold turkey quitters here! It can be done!
Drink lots of ice water, and keep your hands busy. Rest as much as you can. I also read everynight my top ten reasons to quit. It reminds me of how I felt when I was smoking! And I wasn't feeling good!
So hell week is the hardest, hang on. For some reason popsicles helped me a lot! Anything frozen diminished my cravings;I don't know ehy.
I also recommend yo the Allen Carr Book. It gives you the right frame of mind for your quit.
Hang on, and read and post as often as you can. It helps a lot!
Congratulations on your decision to quit!
Marivi

Welcome buggerdb.  You can do this.  Put your head on straight, read and post and keep your eye on the prize.

Never did I think that I would be 70+ days into a quit after 30+ years.  I feel great and have a renewed attitude toward life.
I owe much of this to the people on this site and the diverse backgrounds and experiences of this community.

You can do this.  Enjoy the journey!

Dave

bugger,

Welcome and congrats for making the healthy choice!  The members are right!  Preparation is the key and can really help with cold turkey.  Keep busy, relax your body and listen to your self talk.  This can be done and we can help.  Post often, vent or ask questions.

We can always help!
