Welcome Debby! I am a fairly new "quitter" myself and this has to be the 10th time I have tried to quit. Please do not let your past failures keep you from thinking it is impossible, because its not!! Where there is a will there is a way!  Everyday gets easier - not easy... but easier, and you will find youself spending less time thinking about that cigarette. I noticed in the beginning I really had to change my daily routine. In the morning, I go strait to the shower instead of putting on the t.v and watching the news (where I would usually have my morning smoke). Ive been to work early every day since I quit! Bonus! On my break and lunch I visit this website and read read read, I also now spend time going to recipe sites as well and search for great recipes to cook (great reward for yourself) This way I can fill in the time - Break, I look for a recipe, Lunch I go buy the ingredients, After work I prepare and cook my dinner, try to look for recipes that are time consuming. I know most people think they dont have enough time in a day. Think about how much time you spend smoking. Say 10 min a smoke. 10 min times 20 cigarettes = 3 hours or so (correct me if im wrong). I also walk on the other side of the road on my way home to avoid the shop that I buy my cigarettes from. In the beginning on the weekend I dont think I have slept so much before. Sleeping helps pass that time. Sunflower seeds, popsicles, pistachio nuts, hard cady, all help. Please let us know how you are doing! Fingers and toes crossed!

Welcome debby,
If you want to quit you've certainly come to the right place. There's lots of us here who are not on their first quit. The SSC has been like a lifeboat for me.  Nothing has been more worthwhile in my life. I never thought I could quit. Its nice to be in control today!
You can do this!

Debby, welcome to the SSC!  I hope this will be your final quit!  They say it takes the average smoker 7 tries to finally quit, so don't worry if you've tried before.  So let's get you all prepared, because if you are 110% prepared, your chances of success are greatly increased.  Go through "my program" so you have an action plan for this quit.  It really helps you understand your addiction to nicotine.  Add your quit meter to your postings from "my profile" so you can see your progress.  Both My Program and My Profile are in the main heading of this site.  Set up a reward system with a small reward for each passed cravings, a medium sized reward for each day smoke free, and a larger reward for each smoke free week.  My reward today will be taking my dog for a long walk since it is a Beautiful St. Patrick's Day here in Columbus!  Read, read, and read some more!  Do a search on "the patch" as there is alot of great information on this site, including tips and tricks and best practices.  Post as often as you need, if only to vent, rave, scream, etc.  Just remember this quit is all about YOU!!!  Spoil yourself.  Take long baths.  Sleep in.  Do whatever you need to do!  And know that somebody is always here, 24/7, to help!  We're all rooting for your success!

Hi I started my quit yesterday, just came across this site. Wish I had found it before as I was really scared if I would be able to quit this time (failed before). bold  Today hasn't been too bad up to now, but then again its only been 24hours. I'm using the patches this time, hopefully I'll manage better this time and quit for good.
