Hi KP,
Welcome to the best place to find support and information!

I can totally relate to your quit, I did the same thing. One day I just put away the cigarettes. That was it. Then I kind of freaked out. lol. What have I done?
However, I am not as brave as you... I used the patches (I was chicken).  And look where I am now.. believe me... it was the last thing I ever expected but this is the longest I've ever  quit  (33years, pack a day habit).  I found this site in the third week of my quit and that was it. I owe everything to the people here and the program. I knew I never had to go back to smoking. This is the way out.

Be sure to set up your program and work those rewards!  You will be amazed at the difference it makes. Your brain used  cigs as a reward so you have to cook up some new ones to trick your brain. Also , positive attitude... like you already have :)  You are seeing the positive aspects of quitting... walking, breathing better.  Stay focused on the good things and quitting will be soooooo much easier! The Alan Carr book is a great read along with the old posts on this site. There is not a single subject that has not been  discussed about smoking.

We are a cheerful bunch who will be your quit buddies and helpers.. post a lot, stay focused and it will happen for you!!  Trust me, my new friend, you don't want to be my age and smoking. All of us will say that and so will your dad.... it is a drag!

Good luck! We are all here in your cheering section!

best,

HP

Kinapella, welcome to the SSC!  Congratulations on your 9 days smoke free!  Please be sure to fill out all of the sections under "my program" so you have a plan in place to fight the urges.  Don't forget about a rewards system, as Karen mentions below, as you need to celebrate your successes.  And you know from reading different posts, we LOVE celebrating milestones here at SSC!  I also quit cold turkey, using alot of tips and tricks I found on this site.  Good luck on what hopefully will be your Final Quit!  We're all rooting for your success!

Kinapella,

Welcome to our SSC support community and congrats on your second week smoke-free, way to go!  You have come to a place of wonderful support, knowledge, and advice from other quitters like you.

Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

Start reading through the forums...you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers.

Good luck & check back soon!

Hi everyone...I am in my second week of no smoking after a pack a day habit and am stoked that there are so many people on here in my boat...it helps.  I have tried to quit before but for the wrong reasons i think...I want this one to stick and really my quit came out of no where...i didnt really plan to quit, i mean i thought about how i SHOULD all the time and then one day just did...Walked right past the 711 and went to work without buying a pack...Im quitting cold turkey...I keep getting flashes of how that was a stupid decision and how i really actually like smoking so i feel like im missing out or punishing myself or something...BUT i want to do it because i walked home from work last night ...across the city, over the Granville Street Bridge and up to my house...a walk that generally has me dieing...can't breath...can't...breath... but this time i was fine...or at least 10 times better than i was before...if this is after only 9 days...i cant wait to see what 2 months looks like....I havent told my mom im quitting...she gets so disappointed when i start up, but my dad is a smoker and he knows...he is so proud of me and i want to hit two months ( the length of time i lasted before i cracked on my last quit) beat it and then tell my mom...its a good driver I think... :)  So good luck to everyone on here!  Just wanted to pop on and introduce myself :)
