Hi moses I didn't realise that your spouse still smoked. Like everyone else I find it intoxicating as well but lately I've found it more aggravating than anything else , to the point of walking away. By not smoking the only thing that will happen is that you'll end up being a better version of your self. Be kind to yourself. breather 73 Addict 0

Welcome Moses and Nicole!  The smell of someone smoking is intoxicating for me as well, however, the smell of smoke clinging to a smoker or in a room just plain stinks.  Isn't it amazing, Moses, that the ignition to your car still starts without that cigarette between your lips?  Driving in the car and down time at home are the worst for me as well.  Just keep distracting yourself---you are doing so well---4 days!!!  Yippee!

Moses, I remember seeing a sign during construction at a hotel that said "Temporary inconvenience will lead to permanent improvement".  Its truth in advertising during Hell and Heck weeks.  Life can be miserable.  You may be angry.  You may be unsocialable.  You may be on the brink of tears.  You are fighting an addiction.  That nicodemon will fight, fight, and fight some more to get back into your system.  The first couple days of a quit the cravings are physical.  Your body is telling you that it needs nicotine to survive.  Well, we know that isn't true.  After a couple days, the nicotine is out of your system but now its your brain telling you that it needs nicotine.  Its the stresses of life, the triggers from situations where you always smoked.  Smoking and drinking coffee.  Smoking while being socialable.  Well, all of us can tell you that you can still drink coffee and be socialable without drinking.  This is where a support system pays off.  I believe coming to SSC is one of the best decisions you have ever made.  Congrats on surviving 2 days smoke free!  We're all rooting for your continued success!

Hello Moses You were speaking of going outside for a couple of puffs. If you're serious about quitting get rid of all smoking materials. Don't keep cigarettes , tobacco , ashtrays or anything like that around. Don't make it easy to just light up. I sincerely hope that you don't smoke. Anything to do with smoking should have been gone day one. Of course it's tough , nobody knows that more than we do , but it can be done and you can do it if you want to. Breather 73 Addict still 0

Moses - ever watch Friends?  Fun Bobby was a guy on Friends who wasn't "Fun" after he stopped drinking.  You are not the Fun Bobby of smoking!  Trust me, that wonderful personality will still shine through, just be patient with yourself.  This is an addiction like any other.  We cannot logically expect any addict to be all smiles when going through the physical and mental withdrawal of other drugs.  The more you experience the successes and when your body is free of the nicotine, you'll see your old self peeking back through.

You did the right thing by coming here while craving.  It helps us to stay focused on the goal and understand that we aren't the only ones feeling this way.  If you can't sleep, stop back by.  Due to the time difference, I'm here all by my lonesome most days!

You are doing a great job!  Give yourself credit and be proud!
Angie

Hi all.
Thanks for the encouragement and the suggestions! I really need it right now. Surely i'm not the only one, either.
I seem to be fine at work because i'm so busy [recession? what recession??] but once the drive home hits it's all uphill.
This hasn't been a New Year's resolution for me. This quit has been coming on for several months. But over the years I kept telling myself I wouldn't succeed. What a stupid thing to self-talk.
I guess the biggest thing is when I'm smoking I'm quite sociable. When trying to quit I get miserable as hell. Even I can't stand myself. It's the biggest reason I end up going back to the smokes.
I have been reading the posts a lot in the evening. A half hour ago I was ready to go outside and say to heck with it. At least for a couple puffs. I decided to come here instead. I'm glad I did.
I'm not sleeping either. Not just the last few nights but for the last few months. My naturopathic doctor told me to try something tonight so I'll see how that goes.
Keep up the great work everyone. It's such an inspiration to see your progress. So, you see, us newbies are counting on you.
Even to the lady with 8 days in...that's awesome. Eight days! That sounds like such a milestone to me.
Here's a quote for you... I don't know who said it:
"Most people will not change until the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change".
Looks like there's pain regardless...

Hi Moses and Nicole,

How is it going today??? Everybody ok?
Hang in there and post all you want... it's a great distraction from a crave.

I know that I was glued to this site... reading ..... for  a couple of months. Set up my quit meter which was an unexpected motivator. I did not want to give up even one hard won day to the nicodemon!

Stay busy, stay here, post... just distract yourself long enough to make it through that crave!

Best,
HP
