i must admit that i am new to this weight thing. i have been a stick figure my whole life and actually had trouble gaining weight. not so much anymore. i have put on about 15-20 lbs and am very self conscious about it...funny thing is - people who haven't seen me in a while are saying "wow, you look good - what's different?" and i end up saying "i am huge ..i gained weight..oh, and i also stopped smoking" the reaction has been awesome. most people say "that's it! it's the smoking...you skin looks great..your hair is fresh and shiny...you look awesome" and then they wait a minute or too and say "and to tell you the truth...you were always wayyyy tooooo skinny". so i have gone from a size 0 to a 4 and while most people say "poor you..." it's a big difference...it's like i am a new person...i was boney and pointy in places and now when i sit on a hard chair i finally have a little cushion ") the key now is to eat smarter and to stop stuffing my face with 'fun foods because i deserve it as a non smoker" i will always be a non-smoker...i just want to be a healthy one.....i sat on my husbands lap the other night and i could tell from his face that he wasn't used to all of me. well...pal....get used to it!

This site has helped me tremendously - I have been a non-smoker for 12 years....it hasn't been easy every day but absolutely worth it....I've had 4,022 smoke free days -I saved $5,228.60 in wasted funds, I saved 528 days/1 hour/18 minutes and 3 seconds of my life....4022 cigarettes not smoked! I was a smoker from 12 years old to 50 years old....if I can do it - anyone can!

you seem very much in contral of your eating life , that's great . but a lot of people with food , are like smokers with cigarettes.

some might eat out of boredom , or habit , or depression , or happiness , etc.

so like quitting smoking it takes planning and discipline , for some.

Watching eating habits for me is different then quitting smoking--- The main reason is eating is a "need" and smoking is a "want". With my diet, I tend to stay in the Weight Watcher guidelines of portion control and better overall food choices. So, for instance, my food intake today:

1. 2 eggwhite omlette with onions

2. 100 calorie snack pack (Mmm, Chips Ahoy)

3. 1 serving baked Doritos

HERE we get "BAD"

4. 2 slices NY Pizza--- Why? The office brought it in for free. As they say, if it's free it's for me!

So, I know that those 2 slices were HEAVY calories... So, I will skip my PM snack (usually a fruit, or a 60 calorie pudding) and not have a desert after dinner. Which I know is 6inch Turkey sub...

If you do the WW Points, I ate about 22 points total--- I get 32 for the day. With the subway, I'll be in the neighborhood of 28-29 points. That only leaves 3 points EXCEPT I have a ton of workout points and my 35 weekly flex points...

I just know that this was my one "break away" for the week.

It is different then smoking, to me anyways, as I can be "bad" with the pizza but with a smoke, a can't just have half a butt... There is just no playing around!

Api, I love your tip and here is something we can add to it. When the rubber band comes off and you start thinking about a little snack, you know the ones that won't hurt you

, snap the rubber band and get back to right thinking. I used the rubber band on one my quits and it really helped as long as I wore it. A snapped rubber band hurts!!! Just a thought.

Awesome tip Sparky. I do something similar... I am also trying for 64oz of H20 per day... So I have the same 16oz Waterbottle, with 4 rubberbands around it. Every time I re-fill, I take one of the rubberbands and put it around my wrist....

Cool tip Sparky. I'll have to remember that.

I'm going into this exercise mode with the exact same attitude as I did last year to quit smoking. I WILL DO IT!! I'm telling everyone that I plan on losing a few pounds, tightening up the remainder, and I WILL DO IT!! There are no ifs, ands, or buts (or butts if you prefer!! lol). I know it won't be easy, but quitting smoking wasn't either, and we did that. I started exercising last week, and have been consistent at doing some form of cardio or weights each day. As Goofy used to say, "Let's get this done"......
