Hi Stickin To It,

Truly remarkable words to live by.......thank you for your post.

Your concept of "urge killers" is so practical and relevant and perhaps the tactic of delaying urges is the most effective means early in a quit to make the quit a successful habit.

Enjoy another glorious smoke-free Tuesday!

Flatly refuse to give in to the urge to smoke at any and at all stages of the journey.  Be polite but firm and tell the urge “we will consider your wants NEXT time”.  In the meantime throw in some distractions and the urge will go away for a spell.

It goes without saying, the longer you go without smoking the easier it is to keep saying no.  It becomes a pattern of thinking, NO perhaps later, come back later to discuss it.  Trickery or delaying tactics can help see you through those urges along with the distractions you have worked out and placed in your folder of “URGE KILLERS’.

We should work totally hard on displacing smoking thoughts; DO NOT let them stew in your mind.  When you do you leave the door open for torment and abuse.

Think about how wonderful it is that you do not smoke, take a deep breath and feel the positives of breathing.  Feel how your lungs expand  further than before and how your nasal passages are clearer, the tone of your voice higher, fingers no longer stained, skin tone no longer pale or grey, a bounce in your walk and the respect that you feel for yourself.

And you say, “I am doing this”!  The day will come when the thought of smoking is no longer in the forefront of your thinking.  Rather it slips into the background and becomes a memory of days past.

He made himself a permanent resident of your home, when he was only suppose to stay for a short spell, never again. Make up your mind to make it stick; you have had your last!

Stickin
