sick body, sick thoughts

16 years ago 0 375 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thank you my quit buddies.  Being sick is a little boring, so I went online today and googled detox reactions and am starting to rethink this "flu".  I think there is something to what you guys said about this being part of the healing process.

I have every single symptom of a healing reaction (toxins being released into the body that has been stored in organs/tissues/cells).  I've been on a detox program for 4 days now (and this is my first time)-- it seems to be very common to have this reaction.  And I would imagine the toxins accumulated from 20 years of smoking are not running around in my system blowing butterfly kisses!  Bastardos!

No wonder I was craving so bad today.

The symptoms vary from person to person, but common symptoms are fever and/or chills, aches in joints, headache, extreme fatigue, nausea, sore throat (and there are some others that I can't remember-- google if interested in reading more).  So, just a head's up for those of you who may go through this too..... either that or I have the flu :)   Either way I have a lot of time on my hands so it's a blessing in disguise.

Thank you Ron-- it was definitely one hour at a time today!  And Bonnie, HP, and Sarah-- you gals inspired me to look into this a little further.  Thank you for that, and for being there.

It's so amazing that when I'm struggling, that's all I can think of.  When the sailing gets smoother, it doesn't even occur to me that I'm not struggling anymore.... life just seems to go on.  So things are much better at the moment .

Deb,
I think you hit it on the head with your analysis. When you hit a rough spot like today the tendency is to focus that it's the quitting that's the problem. Instead try to just look at it as healing your addicted self. Do whatever you need to do.. sit in bed, cry, baby yourself, and just say you can do anything your heart desires but puffing on a cig.  Soon enough you will get your energy back and be positive again on your quit.  Your mind likes to play tricks with you, but behind all of theatrics is the person behind those thoughts that makes the final decision and I think that one is resolute in sticking with the NS plan.  You can do it... and as crazy as it sounds it's slowly gets easier ODAAT.

I'm so sorry you are sick... hopefully you will feel better soon.   We have been putting poison and nicotine in our bodies for sooo long.. and now we are denying it..LOL  you would think it would be sooo Happy.   It takes awhile to get rid of the poison, and as someone said.. we are kind of stressing our systems out.

I wanted to scream (at first) when someone would say Don't you feel so much better..... NO .. when is it going to feel better.

Well it does, but it kind of sneaks up on you.

Take some vitamins and drink some orange juice.. get your immune system built back up.

hugs, Bonnie

deborah,

I'm sorry to hear that you are sick! Quitting smoking can put great strains on your body as it has finally been given a chance to repair all the damages introduced by smoking. However, congratulations on resisting those urges!

Feel better soon and stay close next time you feel the temptation to smoke.

I'm home sick.  And God thought it would be funny to give me pink eye while someone else was passing out the viruses.  So I'm crabby-- too sick to sleep, too sick to be awake.  I thought I should smoke.  So I posted instead.  I guess today is just a feel bad day.

Yesterday, CyberDuke warned me that I was getting far enough into my program for that thought to come: I have this beat.  I could have one and be fine.  I really really wanted one.  I really thought to myself-- I want one..... maybe even just half of one.  That surely will make me feel less sick!!!  And bored!!!  It'll fix me.

What a load that is!!!!  Can you believe that we tell ourselves this stuff?  It's like a deranged, crazy person whispering in our ear.  "Smoke.  It's good for you.  It smells nice... by the way, ally cats make great hats too."  Crazy person.

So, yeah-- I did listen to the crazy lady telling me that smoking was a good idea.  But not for too long.  I hauled my sick self over to the computer to write it out and banish it.  Now me and my red eye need to go lay down again

Wishing everyone health.
