Behind the scenes - reflections on one month - my (earned) ramble

Congratulations CD  a month is a very big milestone in this journey. I do have to say that your 1st month was a bit more stressful than mine but you realized something very important by knowing that having a cigarette wouldn't have lessened the stress' or fixed any of those problems maybe we are like the tv show, we are MYTHBUSTERS.

wow.  some interesting stuff here.  it is amazing how much importance we put on smoking...when i was only into my 8th or 12th day - i wondered how i would walk or blink or live without cigarettes...how can i open mail? what happens if the phone rings?  what do i do while waiting for a bus? here you are - decisions and situations - stress - parenting...the ups and downs of life which would have caused you to reach for a cig in the past...and you made it through all of it without doing so.  this post was very inspirational....you are a good quitter and a strong one...one month is tough - but it gets easier...thank you for sharing your experience so honestly...good luck and keep it up....

Hi everyone....

My posts tend to stay positive. I come here to pick myself and others up. I think people get the wrong idea at times, that this has been easy for me - far from it. It has been a struggle.

During this first 30 days........

My mother had a heart issue and spent 5 days in the hospital. This happened the weekend I quit. ON DAY 1 - less than 6 hours into the quit I got the phone call. I kid you not. I stuck with the quit, mom is doing very well.

My 18 year old got himself arrested 5 days into the quit. I spent yesterday in court with him. Not serious charges, but arrested is arrested. Again - I did not smoke. The kid needs to pay a fine and be good for a year.

Last week the refrigerator burst it's water line going to the ice maker - not a ton of water, but enough to seep through the ceiling downstairs and cause some problems that need to be fixed. They'll get fixed sooner or later, but smoking won't change the fact that it happened or change the timetable for getting it fixed.

A friend that was going to share expenses on a place up in Maine for a vacation week, backed out and left me holding the bag money wise. I needed to "find" 800 dollars fast or lose the place and the vacation week we have been planning. Didn't smoke. Found the money.

Got scheduled, then pulled off, then rescheduled, then pulled off again on a business trip to France. Told my wife I'm going, I'm not going, I'm going, I'm not going...... That was fun. Didn't smoke.

Had to go to a hostile client and deal with some pretty bad issues - no smokes.....

What I'm trying to say is that my quit has been no different than anybody elses. It's been tough - but I am finding out that I am tougher. That's all I need to know.

Stress is going to happen if I smoke or don't. The smokes don't really help stress at all. For me, right now, getting through these situations and not smoking is stress relief.

It's been one hell of a month. But it's behind me now and my stats tell the story. No matter what life throws at you, smoking is not a solution to the problem/issue/situation. No matter what happens - don't smoke - you'll feel so much better and stronger once the situation is done and you still have your quit. I say this from experience. The quit gets stronger and stronger each time you choose to keep it!

Quitting cigarettes is a very doable thing. Not easy - but very doable.

My hats off to all those who are in front of me, with me, and behind me on this journey. Guess that's enough of a ramble for my one month quit post. Like I said, I tend not to talk about my issues here - but I felt it was useful for folks to know what I've made it through, and to know I've earned it, and to know they can make it as well.

I am a....
