Thank you, everyone for the encouraging words.  It was good to greet the day with support.  Early hours yet, but I'm so glad you're here.  Thanks again -- and welcome to you, gob.

Hello Riverdaughter7 and Gobs I am sorry I am a little late with my welcome but its heartfelt all the same.  You guys have definitely come to the right place for help, support, encouragement and advice. Some of the 'long term' members will be tired of me saying this but without their help in the first few days I dont know how I would have coped.
I am lucky in the fact I have had an easy quit physically but psycholgically a really tough time and they were always there with their help and advice and I found it so good just to 'sound off' about how I was feeling.
So huge welcomes to both of you, share your thoughts with us and we're happy you've joined us.

RiverDaughter7 & Gobs,

Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to kick the habit!

We strongly encourage you to prepare for your quit using the program. Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

Start reading through the forums, you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers. You'll also be able to find a lot of tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Good luck & check back soon!

Hello RiverDaughter7 and Gobs!
We've all been where you are right now (and lived to tell about it). One puff  = six more years of nonstop smoking for me. Boy, I learned my lesson from that! Stick with us! You can do this!

Welcome, Gobs,
I see you're on the IM now but you're not registering on my online contacts list... (I've added you to my contacts)  did you log off?  As Goofy says, this is your Hell Week and here is where you have to be really strong - but it WILL get better the further you get along in your Quit...
You could let us know what your circumstances are - are you using an NRT ? Do you want to? Have you read into the programme for tips on dealing with the nasty withdrawal symptoms during your first few days while your body is still in the throes of ridding itself of nicotine?   You could start your own thread and let us know and then you could set up your Quit meter...

Penitent has said it all in my opinion when he suggests that you stay close to this site all day and read and read and read!! Search for a stunning thread by "Joe Cool" and let that motivate you some more....

Hello and welcome to you gobs!!

Your decision to quit is terrific!

What you're experiencing is exactly what I went through my first week. I went cold turkey, and I was miserable!

I couldn't sit still, and screamed at everyone. This passed. I now have a new outlook, and I'm looking for positive things in all situations.

The first week is the worst, which is why we call it "hell week".

Hang in there.. It will get better!

Goofy

I am also Day One (actually I quit at 1:00p.m. yesterday).  I'm dying simply dying.  I did make it through the drive to work, however, which is certainly an accomplishment.  Last night though I couldn't sit still and I was buzzing around the house like a nut job.  Normal?  Gobs

Hi RD7, and welcome!!

I agree with what Patrick said. Especially setting up your quit meter. It also helps others here to see your progress so we can recognize your efforts.

We all enjoy watching how other quitters are coming along.

We've all struggled with a nasty addiction, and now we get to help other people overcome theirs.

Life is good!!
