My name is Steve, I've been smoking 38 years and really don't want to quit. However, I'm going to have to have back surgery very soon and of course the doctors are giving me hell about smoking. They also say it lowers my chance of a better recovery by 40%. I doubt if it's that much of a difference but I don't want to take the chance. I've never had any real surgery before so that is scary enough and the idea of not smoking scares me too.
Anyone had to face these two things at the same time? I'm going to be taking Chantix and I've read some good things about it helping people quit. I've only tried to quit once in my life. That was about 12 years ago and I had one of those countdown things that regulated your smoking schedule. I came close but the timing was bad. The day that was supposed to be my last day I ended up having to take a long car trip. Smoking while driving has always been when I smoke the most. I started back at a reduced amount but of course in a short period of time was back at a pack a day.
OK, I've rambled enough. I look forward to talking to all of you.
