Hi Danielle,

Have you considered changing your morning routine to reduce your cravings?

Hi Danielle!!!

Great to hear from you again!!  I think we all probably had the morning crave when we quit!  I sure did!!!  Before I quit, my routine was coffee and a cigarette to get going!!  Then another one and another one till it was time for the shower and off to work!  When I quit, I changed my routine by getting the coffee and then having some cerial with some fruit!  I never ate breakfast before, as I guess my coffee and cigarette were my breakfast!!!   I'm much happier with my new routine, except for the fact that it may have contributed to my initial 8 pound gain!!!

You are really doing great on your quit so far if it's just getting through that morning crave!!!  My best advise is to distract yourself some how, maybe with breakfast or something different for breakfast like making a smoothy or something!  Maybe taking a walk in the morning before breakfast!  Just changing your routine may make all the difference!  Good luck and have a great holiday!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Danielle,

I think the first smoke of the day was the hardest for me to get over as well. The thing that helped me get over it, was to do as some of the members suggested, and change my morning routine. Instead of going to the kitchen and start the coffee, my wife and I switched routines. She makes the coffee while I shower, when it was the other way around. This helped us both get around that first of the day.

I hope this helps.

Hi Danielle,

You're doing just great. Are you keeping the iced water at hand?? Are you doing the deep breathing?  Go out for a brief walk around the house or the office building... focus on why you're quitting... speak harshly to yourself!

I did the same thing.  I thought of that cig the minute I woke up.  It lasted through my morning coffee and then started to get better as the morning progressed.  It does go away eventually.  Just try not to dwell on the crave.  Just tell yourself you are not going to smoke and that is that.  Try changing your  morning routine.
Even if you just sit somewhere different in the morning to drink your coffee, that will make a difference.  REALLY!!
Small changes make a big difference.  It will pass, and you will be proud of yourself for getting through it.

3 weeks without a single puff...I'm very proud of myself, but for some reason I still get morning craves.  The rest of the day I am fine, even my eating has returned to some what normal (8lbs later).  I sleep with the patch on, so I just don't get it.  For the first couple of hours in the morning all I can think of is a cigarrette.  Frustrated and fighting a crave now....
