Killing the demon

16 years ago 0 1209 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Good morning Paula.  I read you had a Good cry.     Our emotions are going to be a bit touch here for a bit.  My husband was the one sho usually got the brunt of it.....

Ok  don't Romance the little "bugger" thr ONLY thing he is doing is having you spend lots of $$$$. make you want more, make you smell like stale nicotine and smoke.. hide in corneres to get a fix.. give  you more chores to do.. cleaning ashtrays. wipeing down your car, washing your clothes ertc more often so they dont stink.  He is not giving you nicotine.. he is putting millions of nasty poizon amd chemacials in your body.   If you can ven find them for $5.00 a pack ..that is at minimum 150.00 in 30 days.

If you think you don't smell bad.. go pick up some clothes you havn't washed.. smell your car.. go pick up an ash tray and smell it....

Number one and two... Don't think and feel you are "GIVING UP" a friend or comfort.. What you arwe giving up is control of being dependent on a DRUG... that drug is nicotine... which comes packaged with millions of poison, inclucing rat poison, bleach. tar..... there is a post somewhere of all the additives in a cigarette.  you are only getting a small amout of nicotine.

The nicotine in there has taken control of YOUR mind.. it has sut down brain receptors that make dopamine, a very important brain chemical we NEED for our emotional Well being.. The nicotine has turned off and taken control of those receptors..  So ias soon as we put out one cigarette,, the level starts to drop as soon it is yeling for more nicotine, this happens over and over, all day long.  part of the reason we dont sleep well.. The urge is Not strong enough to get up and smoke, and we go through withdrawl of nicotine... everytime we put out the last cigarette...... we only take back control when WE decide not to feed it.  It is like having a tape worm in your body...

We don't know... and we Hope like.......... that this cigarette is NOT the one that is going to start some mutant cells to give us COPD or some kind of Cancer, or start off the same things in our pets..

Cigarettes promise us  EVERYTHING  and the opposite...  we smoke when we are sad, happy, angry , calm,  hungry, full after a nice meal.     but we keep wanting and needing more and more..    We have to run out and hide, in rain, wind , sun, day, night.. whatever..   then jump around and eat mints and run back in and join friends...

Now I leave the house,  I stay inside at the party and enjoy the coversation, or birthday cake.... I am not freaking out wondering if I have have enough smokes with me,  where can I find a corner to smoke without bothering someone.

I have been putting the cost of a carton of cigarettes away....weekly.

Yes I still sometimes want one... But there is NO such thing as one.. and I   wont give back control to the nicotine......

Go on line.. there is a FREE e book   "Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Smoking"   It has some very gooc suggestions and  ideas for help.  I don;t agree with all of it... but like anything NOt everything works for everyone.. take what helps, leave the rest.

You are struggling do hsrd with this quit.... you need to let it happen and work it. but you have to get your mind set first.

I know we are all here for you..........

Hi Paula,

Hang tough--you CAN and will do this. Take it one minute, one hour at a time. Also--with each difficult crave that you get through--you get stronger and the nicodemon gets weaker.

Actually the anticipation of the quit has been far worse than any part of the quit for me ....

Remind yourself---"smoking is NOT an option" (because you don't smoke); and then you'll have to think of something else to do....Post often and remember your reasons for quitting. Drink lots of water, take naps, walk, deep breaths and healthy snaks are all really helpful.

Walk with us--it has been wonderful so far on this non-smoking journey....this site for me has probably been the single most positive part of it all.

Hang tough--we're cheering for you, Deb

Paula,

As you can see, everyone here is in a different stage of their quit. The thing that we all have in common, is we had to go through the first three days to get the nicotine out of our systems.

We have to go through hell week, then heck week. Before you know it you'll be at fifty days and cruisin'.

Take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time.

We're here for you. Just remember to post before you smoke and wait for 5 responses.

Let's get this done!!!

 Ron

Cheers TASFL (To a Smoke Free Life) - we can all do it - and stay that way - one day at a time - if you have to decide one minute at a time - that's okay too - pretty soon those "minutes" add up....take care of you first! - not selfish - SELF-PRESERVING!

Hey Paula!!!

Early on in my quit, I really had that mindset!!!  MUST  KILL  NICO-DEMON!!!    I pictured myself all suited up in my shiney armour with a sparkling sword and shield doing battle with that hideous, death-causing creature!!!    That is part of what worked for me!!!

What really worked for me though was totally committing myself to quit and keeping that Positive Mental Attitude!!!  I did not say to myself that I was trying to quit, I told myself that I  QUIT!!!  I made an oath to myself and a public oath that I posted on this site!!!  It's there, you can read it!!!  Do this for yourself and don't look back!!!

Try some chamomille tea, that has a calming effect.  Try anything that you know calms you right now.
If nothing else take a nice long walk and breath deep in through your nose and slowly out through your mouth.
If worse comes to worse chew on a straw.  I did that for a few days, and it helped.

Stay strong and remember NOT ONE PUFF EVER!!!!!  NOPE!!!!
