LoriA, welcome to SSC and congrats on the great quit you have going.  I too have a friend that I would sit on the phone with for hours and smoke.  AND, I too reached for those cigs while on the phone with here.  Doesn't it feel SOOOO good to get off the phone and realise, I MADE IT!  You are doing great.  Just remember that cigs never make anything better.  It takes time to retrain the brain, but hang in there and keep the quit going and it will happen.

Good job... pat on the back.   I avoided some things for a few days... or changed where I did them a bit.

Picture yourself as a NON smoker. in all kinds of situations. clothes etc... as a NON smoker.  The bloating, gas etc is all part of getting the junk out of yur sysytem.. and your body is learning how to work without gunk...lol

Extra fiber, fruit and veggies.  I got some "probiotic" capsules at the vitamin store to help restore the intestinal flora.

Remind the kids... about you not smoking and enlist their help.. maybe make a clendar or chart and they can draw you a picture or you can find some stickers...

you are doing a great thing for yourself and your children..

Well, just got off the phone with a girlfriend.  She is one of my friends I sit and talk on the phone with and we both smoke.  I didn't!!!!!!  I reached for my smokes, but then remembered, I don't do that anymore.  I was outside too, that is where I used to smoke, but I was always on the front porch, this time I was on the back deck.  Felt strange not smoking, but I am proud of me!  Yay me!!!!!

Hi LoriA,

Welcome aboard and congrats on four days!

Unfortunately, it can longer in some people. I would recommend the withdrawals information sheet located in your glove compartment. It will give you quite a few tips & tricks to help you deal with those nasty withdrawal symptoms.

Have a great smoke free day!

Hey Lori!!!!

Tired of all the interaction yet??  Good, because when you ask for something on this site, you usually get it!!!  Like Patrick said, the real name of this game IS Positive Mental Attitude!!!  If you have it, you will succeed in your quit and it will make the whole process that much more tolerable!!!

The Chantix is great for minimizing the intense cravings and if you just keep telling yourself that YES, I AM A NON-SMOKER, you will be sitting right where I am with a couple of months under your belt and feeling great about it!!!

You CAN do this!!!  It really does help to read the posts on here, too!!  SO much info here to help you better understand the addiction and how to overcome it!!!

You really are doing great so far!!!  Keep it up!!!

     Jim

Lori.... this is what all the members are saying when they talk about "PMA" positive mental attitude... you have decided to quit, this is not a game, you will not smoke again, you have dug your heels in the ground and you're not moving... you call yourself a non-smoker when you say to yourself with honesty ( be brave and tough!) " I am a non-smoker"...

Bburp, fa*t and take an aspirin - everything is unfolding as it should... stay cool - go into your time-out bedroom and  lie down for 10 minutes when you feel nuts... the nicotine is probably gone from your system but the cravings will jump up and bite you for a while yet... just drink the iced water and breathe in and out...

You guys are all great!

I didn't think about calling myself a nonsmoker yet.  I thought I had to pass like a certain period of time before I could call myself that.

Right now it is not so much about cravings as it is the headache, gas, bloating, lethargy and just down right exhaustion that is drivng me nuts.  I know that it is the nicotine leaving my system, but I didn't start getting these until today.  I thought that nicotine was gone after 72 hours.  Oh well, this too I can survive.
