Freogirl,
Welcome to the site - this is a great place to quit.
Cutting down is pretty hard to do - I think harder than quitting. Even 1 a day or 1 a week is too many because you keep the physical and mental addiction alive, and will eventually relapse. So I have to ask you a hard question : do you really want to quit? If so, you need to go for 0 cigarettes a day.
So assuming you want to quit, then there are other things you can do apart from nicotene replacement - hypnotherapy for instance can be very effective. But you probably know this from last time - there is no magic bullet. If you get the right mindset and determination going, then its one heck of a lot easier.
There are a lot of tools here on this site to help you identify triggers and make plans for how you are going cope with a craving. There are a lot of people on this site that will support you when you start your quit, and will help you every step of the way. Have a look around!
Lizzie :)
