Eating obsession

16 years ago 0 2039 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
This is a great thread. And depending on where we are in our quits, we respond to our eating accordingly. I ate more after I quit smoking. I eat a variety of different foods, its just that I ate more of them. And that's OK. It got me through. I still have a treat if I feel I need to. I'm feeling really good now, more energy, and soooo proud of the fact that I don't smoke. Lots of fruit and veggies, with the odd chocolate bar thrown in. Keeps me goin'! Oops. Posted to the wrong thread! Maybe I should respond to the "fog" thread too, eh? :) I think it took me about six months before i stopped gaining, too. To date I've lost about eight of the almost 20 gained. My goal is seven more! Good luck to us all! Just say "no" to muffin tops! I agree with that line of thinking. Some days I still have crazy day's where I have to have something constantly in my mouth and then there are day's like today that I ate normally. Even when I'm having the crave day's I'm not stuffing my face with bad things. I have pretzels and grapes and nuts and things like that, but I do enjoy a candy bar or ice cream on occassion. I even had a pepsi today and I haven't had one of those in a few days My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 590 Amount Saved: $88.50 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 19 Mins: 13 Seconds: 34

Well, I think it has to do with not "denying" ourselves whatever it is we think we want at the moment, because we are "denying" ourselves the smoke, so we tend to say "if I'm doing that, I'm gonna eat this..." So when or if you don't feel "deprived" on a subconscious or conscious level, the food replacement slows way down. I think it's connected to the reward center of the brain, too. Its just a what I think, anyway. I came into this quit with an exercise plan already in effect for several years. This is the conclusion I have come to. I do not overdue the sweets but I do indulge and I am not going to give all that up and "DIET". I already have a very healthy diet, so I will just have to deal with this until my metabolism evens back out and IF I end up with a few extra lbs then so be it, but they will have been put in their place when that time comes. Hey guys, I understand the eating obsession thing. I'm only just starting to get it together again. I've gained 7 lbs. in 80 days. Somehow a "sweet tooth" decided it needed to be heard, loud and clear. Ice cream, chocolate bars, etc. Nachos weren't too bad either for that matter. Or homemade cookies...uh ho, here I do daydreaming again! Truth is, I've gotten myself back onto my Jenny Craig program this week, making sure I walk every day. It isn't as difficult as it would have been a month ago. Everything just takes time. I'm trying soooo hard to be patient. Well I started this quit with a plan in place. I am a walker, but I added Curves to my days. Did pretty darn good for awhile and then life happened and I have gained 10 pounds. I try really hard to eat healthy and I do, but you know that time when a cookie, or a brownie sounds soooooooooo good and you have no will power, that's me. I stopped gaining around 6 or 7 months, but darn it I want the extra to leave. So today I am responsible for what goes into my mouth. I am recommitting myself to count the calories and up the exercise. Ha ha that is a very bad visual but oh so true! I'm headed out to the Jazzercise. Maybe that will be the key. It really upsets me that you just said that you quit gaining after 90 days. OMG I'm at 60 and have already gained 8, I don't think I can stand myself if I gain much more. Yikes Terry :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 590 Amount Saved: $88.50 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 18 Mins: 57 Seconds: 21

Well, the truth is that most of us have gained weight because of quitting, but know that you would have to gain more than 100 lbs to be as bad for you as smoking was, so a couple of pounds (OK! I'll admit to 15!) is not a lot to pay to get so much healthier. And I do see a stop to the gain now, too. It semms since I hit 90 days I don't feel so ravenous. And there is something to be said for cutting back on the food rewards, too. I was doing a LOT of that and not so much any more. So it does get better, it just doesn't feel comfortable in the process. (I also had to go get some jeans that fit without the muffin top - really BAD visual there...) Hi Diane!!! I have also become "MR. ROTUNDO", but I haven't smoked!!! :) Yes, it's getting harder to bend over to tie my shoes and reach my little piggy toes to wash them in the shower in the morning!!! I'm exercising after work, swimming laps at lunch time, eating healthy and doing most everything I can to not gain weight!!! So, I'm with Terry... I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing and eventually the trend has got to reverse... doesn't it??? :quest: The most important thing for me right now is to not smoke!!! I think the weight will eventually take care of itself!!! Keep up the great quit!!!
