wow....a cruise...who'd of thunk? thanks so much.....must say this weekend was a test....17 year old daughter with college and prom issues...husband with well, husband issues...everything and everyone made me wish i were still a smoker...and then i went to the computer...read some of your posts and reminded myself of the big picture...and it is a big picture...the day to day is difficult indeed but i have come so far i cannot turn back now...last night i dreamt i was smoking again (the dreams went away for a while) and i am sure it is because i went to bed angry that i didn't have a cigarette as a crutch anymore...so i smoked in my dream and woke up happy that it was just a dream...sometimes i wonder if i am going insane but i have been told that if i think i am insane than surely i am not. yeeesh. all is good though..i am still here and still not smoking. love mai tai's. you are all the best! Hi Sassy! Goofy is right, we really should have welcomed you onto the cruise! Here's a Mai Tai, a deck chair, and I think DL just went for a swim over there in the pool... I do want to say though, that when I start saying "I want a smoke, I find I am doing some sort of romancing the addiction, allowing the "possibility" to creep in, and when I firmly say "NO, I don't", take a deep belly breath, and relax my shoulders, that feeling that "I want" is gone. I also will say to myself, self, I say, "I don't want one, I am just ACCUSTOMED to having one in this type of situation". Since I smoked for 42 years or so, there are not many situations in which I am NOT accustomed to having one, so that takes a LOT of belly breaths! But it does get easier, and there are longer and longer periods of time in which I don't even think of smoking AT ALL. Amazing, because when we smoked, we spent ALL our time thinking of smoking (or quitting!), right? Hope you are feeling better, Hugs, Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/9/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,600 Amount Saved: $400.00 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 21 Mins: 2 Seconds: 9

Hi Sassy, Firstly, congratulations on fifty days smokefree! What an incredible thing you are doing and yes, it can be hard and it's true, sometimes it's not fun but it's so worth it! Just keep doing what you're doing cause it is working for you! :)Recognize those junkie thoughts ... let them pass. Don't listen no matter how convincing they might get and remember NOPE. thank you to everyone who has given me so much great encouragement and support...saturdays are tough...but i am getting stronger with each day....and yes...how can non-smokers know what it feels like to fight a constant urge they never had...so i will take the advice of the 'group' and say "yes i want one - but no i won't ever have one" to myself if i need to...i can use my filter :) if i have to and at least it's the correct one for a change...you guys/gals are the best and i am proud of all of us! thanks again... Sassy So here's the thing. Last weekend I was having some difficulty with desires to smoke, and what I realized was that what I had been doing was NOT acknowledging that I had that desire. I still have anywhere from 5-10 smoking thoughts a day...not all desires, but what really does help me is to say "I want one." To try and suppress the desire just makes me anxious, angry, and resentful. So acknowledge that you have the desire. You don't have to make it public. Never smokers will never understand that we will have the desire to smoke, and still smokers secretly want us to go back to smoking. At 50 days, you are very close to breaking through to the other side. Good work. Glad you posted. I always find that posting that I am having difficulty makes me feel better. Stay close here, because this is where you will get the best support. You have triumphed over the quit thus far, Sassy and you'll still appreciate clean air and better health to come. Stay cool and don't expect non-addicts to get where you're at right now. Come in here and shout it out!
