Lainey, Very well said. I never realized I was an addict, until "this" quit. {I've tried before}. Understanding this has made me know why quitting is not easy. I also want to know me & other people know me as a non-smoker. Time heals, as the saying goes & I truly believe that one day at a time we will make it through this. You have a great attitude, Lainey! I'm sure that was true before you quit smoking, but that you've taken that attitude and used it to help you quit... and encourage others here at SSC... is terrific! We've all benefitted by your clear vision and enthusiasm! Keep on swimming, Lainey! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 112 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: $1,036.00 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 0 Mins: 58 Seconds: 19

That was three months ago and despite the time that has gone by, I still feel the same way, but with a difference. I am still turned forward, looking to the future. I have had a day or two where I have had a glimpse of the future to come! I am feeling emotions I had forgotten existed. And I still can't believe how much damage that drug can do. But the new me is emerging. It is subtle, it is sneaking up on me a bit each day. It surprises me. I smile more, I laugh more. I am more at ease, I am more relaxed. I am calmer. I am even more excited about the days to come....can that meter go any faster? So look to the future, keep your eyes on the horizon, say goodbye and close the door to that old smoker you were and open up your heart and your new door to the new you emerging......it is coming.....and the journey is far from over .......... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 112 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: $1,181.60 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 18 Mins: 50 Seconds: 5

Lainey, What a lovely post that was. Today is day one for me off the smokes. I also started as a kid and have smoked for 57 years. Think it's time for the "new me" too before there is "no me". Congratulations to you. I can tell from the post you ar becoming a lovely new person. Good for you! Sally

Lainey, You are so right! I've been thinking the same thing recently. My mother smoked when she was pregnant with me. I grew up in a house of smokers. I started smoking -- guess what -- when I moved out on my own, and my brain wasn't getting its constant second-hand fix. So, my brain has been on nicotine all of my life!. Until now. Like you, I feel like I'm just getting to know "the real me." The me that's not on nicotine. And, doggone if he isn't a good guy. A lot less cranky (cuz I'm not always fighting off the need for a fix), a much longer fuse. Not nearly as jittery, a lot calmer. I'm really appreciating the change (as I'm sure others around me are).
