Hi there- Daily Llama - My quit date is still my birthday May 11th - I will quit but I need to do it the way that I have planned........I know myself better than anyone and jumping in and making a quick decision does not work for me.........I am using the Champix but not feeling any effects from it, I am writting down each smoke I have each day and that has helped me to cut down, I am waiting at least half an hour before I have my morning smoke and I have quit smoking in my car, I have joined a gym and after a couple of months on Champix I am planning on using the patch.....I am still feeling good about quitting and am ready for this......thanks for the support!

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions about Champix....... Like I said I have been taking them for 2 weeks now and my smokes taste as good as ever......I have cut down by writting down each cigerette I have and it has made me more aware........but I don't think the Champix has kicked in yet and may not I'll just have to wait and see......I have also joined a gym in the hopes when I do I quit I will have somewhere to go and take out my frustrations.....LOL......

Members, Thank you for sharing your experiences with Champix. Everyone can experience different effects from Champix, and like you said wheezer, determination does play a role in the way you feel about your quit. Keep persevering! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Glad to see you back. I took Chantix and it really helped me. I have tried everything except standing on my head. I used the patches, several times, Zyban, Zyban and patches together, Smoke Away, and cold turkey. My doctor had suggested Chantix and of course I want to quit on my own terms, but after five years of trying to quit I finally told her I would try it. Look at my numbers, it worked. But it was not a cake walk. I still had to deal with the withdrawal and all the stuff that comes with quitting. But the Chantix took the effects of the nicotine away so what was the point in smoking? It gave me a chance to live a smoke free life. There is not magic bullet out there, but this comes close. You can do this. Throw the fear aside and join us. I started the Chantix and by day 3 or 4 the nicotine rush was gone.. and cigarettes tasted bad. by day 5 I had 4 day 5 I had 3 and on day 6 I only had 1/2 of one. It took the pleasure or the rush from the nicotine totally away, and just left a nasty burning taste in my mouth. I think I am dreaming a bit more.. but no nightmares or anything bad. I am on the 2nd day of 1mg 2 times a day. I do get a bit nauseaus for a few minutes but it goes away quickly.. and I will eat before i take the next one. I have also signed onto the Chantix site.. and done the milestones here My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/11/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10 Amount Saved: $1.58 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 14 Seconds: 36

Hi Wheezer... good to see you online again... My experience with Champix has been good... my cigarettes during the first 8 days of .5 mg twice a day made the smokes less effective - but that didn't make me stop smoking anyway... When I quit on the 9th day (at 2mg per day) I was surprised and very glad to notice that the withdrawal symptoms were minimal - and, then, after the four next days of ridding the body of the nicotine, I didn't have much trouble with cravings either and it has remained like that ever since.. I have had very vivid dreams but no Texas Chainsaw Massacres but I have had days with heightened irritability. I'm going to take the course of Champix for the 12 weeks recommended and then see if I need to taper off or if I'm doing okay without it. Keep posting in here Wheezer and let us help you. Did you pick a Quit Date?? I have been on Champix for almost 2 weeks and I have not noticed any changes in my cravings or behaviour, I know that I must use my own determination as well as using Champix but I was expecting some things to change.........All I have is strange dreams........Can anyone who is using Champix please tell me how it affected your urges and about how long it took..........maybe Champix is not going to work for me........I know, I know ........nothing will take the urges completely away and I know, I have to use my will power along with any aids I use, but I am getting nothing from Champix at least so far......any info you can send along would help.....thanks and much appreciated!
