The switch to 14mg patch from 21mg

I was doing the same thing last night. I figured it cost me nearly $60.00 a week to smoke, and $20.00 for a week's worth of patches. And I always check to flyers to see where the patches are the cheapest!!!! Doesn't make sense. Still, right now I'm saving $40.00 a week. I was cleaning a cupboard (one of my many diversion activities) and I found some patches-- all 3 dosages... That's why I'm 4 short of the 21 mg, I must've found 3 of those... lol... It's strange how I want to minimize the cost of patches but how much money I wasted smoking! :quest: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/12/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 750 Amount Saved: $187.50 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 16 Mins: 0 Seconds: 17

Hey Tina. Sylvie's right, make sure you have some strategies in place, just in case. If you feel remotely close to caving, come here first and post HELP - people are on here 24/7 and will talk you through it. And remember NOPE - there is no other option. You've got 30 beautiful days into your quit now. We timed our patches so the switch-over was on a Thursday. That way it would lead into the weekend, and we could have our hissy fits at home instead of at work! Isn't it crazy how we keep counting them?!?! At the beginning of each week, I'd open the new boxes for hubby and I, put all the little packages on the dresser and throw the box out (I don't know why, but I was anal about getting rid of the big box!). Every morning I'd count both our piles to make sure one of us hadn't screwed up. I have no idea why I kept doing this. :confuse: How did you end up short on your 21mgs? Ginger_15601, When stepping down from the patch, everyone can experience different effects. It may be easier for some then others. That's why it's very important to have coping strategies in place before you make the move. Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Hey Jazz... Thanks for the input... Congratulations on being Nekkid!!! I read your goodbye note to Mr. Patch and I LOVED it. You are definitely an inspiration to me and others. I've been counting all the 21mg patches I have left. I am 4 short of completing 6 weeks but I have 4 14mg patches left from a previous attempt so I keep convincing myself that there's no reason to buy another box of 21mg and just move to the 14mg 4 days early... Every morning, I count how many I have left, like something has changed since the day before-- crazy... I do take the patch off when I go to bed-- gives me wild dreams if I leave it on. You are absolutely GORGEOUS nekkid!!!! Can't wait to be there with you. Hi Tina. I've had great success with the patch. I didn't find the step down too bad. I was concerned about it too, but aside from being a bit bi***ier (according to hubby!), I think I did OK. I didn't really notice any difference at all going from 14mg to 7 mg, and I've just gone patch free (nekkid)starting yesterday. So far so good. Keep a positive attitude and you'll do fine. Firstly, thanks guys, for your ongoing support. It means the world...it really helps solidify my quit. Doodles, 200 smoke free days is awesome!!!! Tina, I haven't found the stepdown from 21mg to 14mg that bad. All I've really noticed is that I'm a little bit more tired. And I've had PMS all week as well. I think its important to stay on the 21mg patch long enough to feel "comfortable" with your quit, then step down. Congrats on your 29 smoke free days. Hello all... I have been reading posts here since before my quit date, and really found inspiration here! I am also on the 21mg patch and am VERY concerned about my step down to 14mg coming in the next few weeks. Faith, doodles, and anyone else who has successfully quit with the patch, can you give me any pointers to prepare? I read in one post that it's a 3-4 day adjustment to the step-down... I've been contemplating getting some NRT gum for 'emergency' purposes. I know it's 'cheating', but I will not smoke and I am afraid if the urge is too strong, I will have 'just one' or 'smoke just tonight' and I know that will lead to a pack a day. I will NOT except failure! N.O.P.E. I, like many others here, have had many failed quits in the past, and the NRT step-down has been a stumbling point for me in some of those failures. This time, I want to be prepared for the physical withdrawl symptoms and I also NEVER want to re-set my counter here. It is amazing to me how much determination those statistics give me. I imagine there's no special 'tricks' for the step-down vs. the normal techniques of diversion... But, any assistance is appreciated. Thanks and Good Luck Jan! Jan, How is the switch going today? Give your body some time again to adjust to a lower dosage of nicotine. Be nice to yourself and treat yourself to an extra little reward. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator
