Hi R6, Welcome to the best darn support group you'll ever find anywhere. That said, I'd like you to take a deep breath, and then let it out. Now, think back to when you decided to quit, and you did DECIDE to quit, you made a positive decision for life, to live on your terms, and to breathe fresh air. So when the thought comes that it would be easier for you to buy a pack, remember that when you did buy a pack, all you could think about was quitting, and now you've done it! So hold onto your reasons for quitting, print them out and keep them near you for emergency reading material. Also do lots of reading on here, navigating around the site is pretty intuitive, just keep left clicking on stuff, you'll get the hang of it. Let us know how you are doing, I'm logged into the messenger for a little while if you need to talk. hey rrains, please think about the hours that you have already been smoke free. Don't threw them away. The really strong urges will let up if you keep holding on to your quit. (otherwise they'll be back every half hour or so-when you are at your regular tobacco intake). Keep the ice water close & tell yourself you are a non-smoker; therefore smoking is not an option, so you'll have to do something else. If we can do this---SO CAN YOU.... Isn't it great to say YIPEE or WOOOOHOOOO; I'm a non-smoker!!!! Hey Becca!!! Hold on Kiddo!!! Take some deep breaths!!! You are in control!!! #1 to get your picture on, you need one on your computer to download from. The top right hand button has "support group options". In there you can browse a file from your computer to get your picture. be sure to answer the yes/no questions and then hit the update preferences button! Easy, huh? #2 For instant messaging, there is a button on the Forum home page to get into instant messenger. Hit the Add Buddy button from one of these posts and they are added to your messager contacts! The trick here, I have found out is that your buddy has to also be logged in to messenger. I'll log in for the rest of the afternoon if you want to try it, but I'll be off and on, as I'll be teaching my class this afternoon! Any more questions, please feel free to ask!!! We're here to help! Hi rrains. Welcome to SSC and congrats on your decision to quit smoking. Take a couple of deep breaths and grab some ice water. Go for a brisk walk if you can....just DON'T BUY SMOKES. You mentioned you needed something better than the patches: I stopped smoking using the patch. Alot of other successful quitters on this site have used the patch too. I have one more to wear tomorrow, then that's the end of my 10 week program. Take things one minute at a time and stay close to this site. There will be others along with words of encouragement. I just seems so easy to go out and buy a pack when Im on my way to the bank today and just hide them from everyone. I can't get my mind out of this frame set. I need something better than the patches, this is the LONGEST day in my whole life. Hi rrains It sounds to me like you are on the right track. You have your candy, your NRT and an exercize bike too!! I believe planning is the key. This site has been a great help to me too. So come back often...we're here for you. rrains0006, Welcome aboard! We encourage you to begin working through the exercises located in your glove compartment. They are a great starting point! Our forums are equally a great resource! Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Hi, RRains and welcome to the SSC. Do lots of preparation before you Quit. Read the posts all over the threads and read carefully in the programme. Make sure that you need to quit more than you need to smoke. You're doing great with the candies and the NRT patches annd the exercise bike. Now, keep big jugs of cold water in the fridge to drink when you get the cravings and all through the withdrawal from the nicotine and ever after! Why? Because it clears out the toxins from your body!! Get rid of all leftover tobacco products (all!) and drop them in water and flush them away. Throw the ashtrays in the garbage with the lighters. Go take a nice long bath anytime you are at home and feel anxious. Breathe deeply four or five times at every point when you start to think about cigarettes; focus on the breathing - inhale and hold and exhale and pause and inhale again and pause and exhale again and so on until your mind quietens down. Expect it to be a little tough and that you'll be nervous but remember that you're saving your life and ghetting rid of a deadly addiction...
