Hi guys, Nice to see you all. Gen, what makes it gothic is the design, its very ornate for a bird box. It is a six sided box with a brass roof and wooden top bit. A pergoda for birds if you like. We got it from the national trust. I may take photos because my explanation isn't good :) Also correct about what I would do if I smoked and had Grace around. Less interaction. Glad I don't smoke. Tresa, I love your optimism. It is one of your shining qualities. It certainly makes it harder for me to slip or relapse you know! :) Thats my little way of saying thank you for keeping on top of me and not wavering with that sunny attitude. One day, my junkie thinking inside of me is going to say 'I give up, I just can't handle it, these positive people are unshakeable. Even I the addiction cannot compare to that. I try so hard to take my host Kev down and make him think he is weak and about to smoke, and they blimmin' undo my good work and build him back up again. Not once, but every single time' I have found it very good to hang around people with a good sense of humour this week and I think it might be showing today. Nice to see you Kev. I like the thought of you and Grace bonding. You see you wouldn't have been happy doing that if your were smelling of the old cigarettes!! Those pigeons are real bullies - even to each other. I watch them jostling for position on the bird table and they can be really sneaky. But what is a gothic birdbox? Sounds scary but nice.... Hi all, just me quietly checking in :) MJ, Sue and Sylvie thanks for the reassurance. You are doing really well too. MJ congrats on a month smokefree. I have a feeling you have a long lasting quit here. Sue congrats on 10 months smokefree. Of course that goes to John too! ;) Lizzie, I hope all is ok. Hope you had a good mothers day. I remembered you have a daughter. My sister and I bought my mum a gothic birdbox. She loves the local wildlife. Except when they poop all over her washing. She wouldn't mind so much but we have a gang of hoodie pigeons taking over the patch. They muscle all the smaller birds out of the bird feed that we provide. My sister had her first ever mothers day too and came around with Grace. So I got to do the uncle thing and look after her for a bit until my weakling arms could take no more :) There are plenty of good times to be had. And just playing with my little niece who can dribble her bodyweight in a day and she is not even teething yet, gives me a lot of satisfaction. Ok, I just really wanted to write to wish everyone a great smokefree week. I went to a different doctor! ;) I was put on anti-depressants, and I feel that they saved my life. I know that goes against what you might think of me with my philosophy, but I do believe that there may be a time and a place for these things, and I do believe I was in that place. My friend completely emersed herself in religion and politics until she got to the point that you could no longer carry on a conversation with her unless you were as politically motivated as she, and we kind of slipped apart. Nothing is permanant, you know. Don't you dare think about slipping away from here! Hi Misty, thats an interesting angle that I hadn't thought about. I think you could be on to something there. Variety is the spice of life after all. To strive to be constantly happy seems an impossible task anyway. Lots of people pretend to be happy when they aren't (I guess that would be your friends situation). It is like admitting that everything is not ok is the ultimate sin. I happened to be one of those type people that smiled a lot and said cheery things to cheer people up when I was eating up inside myself. Post on a public forum? You have to be kidding me. Especially about emotions. SSC was a unique case. I made a promise to myself that I would open up and take down my wall as a one time only offer. I really really wanted to quit smoking so I had to be totally honest with and about myself if I was to make this work. So I wrote and wrote and wrote and wrote totally honest and from the heart, no matter if it made me look like a complete loser or not. I know I drove quite a few people away from me in those first weeks. I still worry a lot that what i write might upset some person somewhere. I also tend to think a lot about whether posting is a good thing or a bad thing. Often I convince myself that I should just quietly slip from the SSC and hope that nobody notices. Unfortunately for my junkie, I haven't driven everyone away and there are some lovely people here who seek me out when they know I have been quiet for a reason. I'd be eternally grateful to many people on this site actually should I 'fail' and smoke tomorrow for just keeping me thinking and in the no smoking game for so long. I think it came as a shock to my mum when she saw me in the state I was in 3 weeks into my quit because I was pretending to exude happiness on a constant basis. Even then I tried to hide it by going to my room. I know how hard it is to keep the fake happy vibe going. So for me, constant happiness is not what i strive for. Some happiness though is good. :) I shall not ask about how the doctors thing turned out or what happened to your friend in the end as you may not wish to discuss, but I will wish you and your friend plenty but not eternal happiness and hope that all got sorted out. I will also admit that despite my predicament currently, having seen some fine quitters like Lizzie, Sue and Tresa get over torrid times emotionally and come out the other side a) smokefree and b) balanced healthy individuals. I still have some hope I can follow their way through. It is touch and go sometimes though and I hope there is no shame in admitting that I struggle very hard indeed to stay smokefree and wonder on a constant basis if it was just not to be for me ever. Thats me in true honest form. Anyway, I love your posts so I hope you keep writing.
