LET ME GET ME STRAIGHT - TO HELL AND BACK

Deck, Take a look in the past. Chances are there have been other ways you've coped with extreme stress. Take a bath? Talk to a friend? Let us know if you need more suggestions and know that we are keeping you in our thoughts. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Deck, when I first started posting, I had some really tough moments and you were very inspiring to me. Don't forget that person, you can always achieve what you really want, and that is to never smoke again. I try to remind myself how depressed I was after every cig, and why I wanted to quit. It is crazy isn't it? When we smoke we hate it and hate ourselves, and then when their gone, we miss it desperatly. Even a small child could point out how ridiculous that is. I have to remind myself everyday how miserable I was a smoke so I don't forget my real objective...TO BE FREE!! Hang in there, I feel so bad for you right now. Take care. Hope you're doing ok today, Deck. I cannot agree more with DL - the 'digging up old music' bug has bit me as well - hugely. So many memories to be had with old music, and the farther you go back, the closer the time frame is to 'before I smoked'. Sort of like re-living the years lost to smoking. It's been a revelation to me, I highly recommend it! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 413 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,499 Amount Saved: 2,271.50 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 4 Mins: 53 Seconds: 46

Your comfort zone for now is with us and anyone who will support your quit. Life is going to happen regardless whether we smoke or not. Comfort will come from within, you will know it when you realize you are winner and you are so worth this quit and your a worthwhile human being. In the mean time just stay close. Sometime life throws us curve balls, catch them and use them as an opportunity to learn and grow. So glad you are hanging tough! When I'm really struggling I try to think myself through it. A) Would a cigarette really help the situation or make me feel better? I suspect I'd just be further upset for having ruined my quit. B) Would it really even taste good? After all this time I suspect it'd taste pretty nasty. C) Do I really want to throw away the 2 months + I've got under my belt & go back through hell week? We all know it's never "just one". You've really got a lot going on right now, but hang in there. "This, too, shall pass." Hej Deck. I have been buying up all those albums by artists I loved 20-30 years ago... big nostalgia rush! Steely Dan, John Martyn, The Chieftains and so on... they are forming a new comfort zone for me - and this new conductor, Gustavo Dudamel? I'm looking forward to his renditions of Beethoven and others.... One door slams shut and a bigger, better one, opens... So glad you are back and are okay. That is great that you made it thru smoke free. Sometimes that is what we need time away from life and everything that goes with it. Taking the time to take care of ourself. Don't panic about the future and going back home (easier said than done, i know) But staying in today will help you all around. There is nothing you can do about the home situation until you get there, so until then please take care of yourself. A new comfort zone can be anything, a place, a hobby, a practice (journaling). Search a find something that fits your personality. take care My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 756 Amount Saved: $294.84 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 19 Mins: 52 Seconds: 43

Sorry for getting here so late, Deck, but I only just saw your post. I'm not sure that gardening could be described as a comfort zone, but I went nuts in the garden this weekend - digging, cutting, sawing, dragging huge lumps of wood around. I tried to work myself to exhaustion, but couldn't quite manage it, I had so much energy. As I said in another post, it was a great feeling. It may work for you. Remember we're quit buddies. So I'll say the same today as you said to my during my stressed-out week from hell - if you don't, I won't. I hope your life gets better soon. Thank you all for your help and support. I made it through the week-end and somehow it's Monday morning again and I haven't smoked. I didn't see much beyond the corner of light between the blankets and the pillow. To be honest with so much other s**t going on at the moment, I simply couldn't cope with the added complications of giving up on my quit. Like some of you said smoking would cure nothing but would certainly make me feel worse if I gave in to it. As I am sitting here I still do not know what is going on back home. Has everything been cleared out? What will I have to face when I get back? I don't know but I certainly hope that I won't have the additional anguish of a failed quit to add to my present woes. But developing new coping mechanisms without cigarettes, is proving to be extremely hard. It's a real stop the world I want to get off kind of feeling. I want back into the comfort zone smoking afforded, but I don't want to smoke. Where can I find a new comfort zone?
