I haven't been around smokers for such a long time (well except for hubby so I guess that counts) As soon as I quit, he started going outside to smoke...When he was off work sometimes I would come home to find an ashtray and smokes beside my computer and he was always so apologetic.... (Hmmm....do you think I'm missing him abit????) I do remember how envious I was when someone would quit smoking. I had 4 friends that all quit at once and I felt completely abandoned. I honestly wanted people to fail (Isn't that awful???) I also remember being so happy when someone who had quit started smoking again...It's amazing how much the junkie distorts our thinking. I don't handle being around smokers well anymore either. Finding myself becoming very resentful when i have to change my clothes when i get home! And the other day a friend smoked in my car, she told her friend who came with us that I always let her! I first of all can't remember the last time she was in my car, but it was probably when i was a smoker so obviously if i smoked then she could too. It made me so angry that she didn't ask, just stunk up my car. I don't think we'll be taking a long drive anytime soon, but its pretty bad when you can't wait an hour to have a smoke! Ouch that really took a toll I decided to leave my office and go outside for a short walk. As I left the building the smokers were out in force just 25 feet away from the door. Theyd be the ones that I use to light up with some time ago; there were about 8 of them. As I walked by, one of them asked me, hey what are you doing down here? I stopped and chatted with him for a couple of minutes. The smoke, oh the smoke, all of the smoke, the air outside was heavy with it. I got a mildly sore throat, headache, partial earache and sinuses got partially stuffed up. Its been 15 minutes since I left the group and my throat is still sore. I want to let you know that smoke really stinks. How could we have? How can we still thinkit? It is a rather nasty addiction, I still smell like smoke. Wonder if any of my cohorts think that I have been smoking outside. I can see them thinking that they smell smoke on that stickin. My lungs are hurting also. The other 7 smoking buds somewhat ignored me; I think they all know that I dont smoke anymore so I am different, not part of the clan. I also believe them to be envious. I have noticed this the past several months but today was much more obvious. They kind of put out the smokes fairly quickly. I now have you my quit buds that smell much more pleasant, you dont hurt my throat, give me a headache, earache, stuffed me up, nor hurt my lungs. You see friends, I dont have to tell you that it isnt easy but it is obtainable and worth the pain of every crave you will ever have while on this journey. You also do know that there really is an end to this journey, dont you! Hang with it, and if you falter, get up and try again. In the not too distance future, smoke will be hurting your throat as well. Remember fight for the minute and only the minute, then the hour and only the hour, and then the day and only the day, the week and only the week, the month and only the month. It does get so much brighter and easier as you build strength along the way. Tryagain, Don't be fooled. It always caused damage to your body. Be happy that you quit before your addiction had a chance to harm you more than it already has. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Stickin, Wow 15 minutes is all it took for all those symptoms... scary isn't it? Thanks for sharing! More proof that we are not missing out on a thing! Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Stickin to it, I'm on a mission now. So just second hand smoke hurt your lungs.... Not stale SHS will bother me, but fresh, I cannot breathe. I think it's different now. There is something different about cigarette smoke now that wasn't there before. Instead of being merely obnoxious, it now causes real pain. that was an inspirational post stickin. thank you for the encouragement. And you are right.. all people who smoke wish that they could quit..they are envious of those who actually succeed. Everytime the subject comes up and I tell a smoker that I quit smoking, they ALWAYS say, wow, good for you! I think quitters are perfectly in their rights to ask their smoking friends to NOT light up "your" car and "your" home. If it's a long trip, you can even offer to stop at a convience area so they can "get their fix"...but you should have your car stunk up by smokers. I spent many many hours cleaning to get that horrid stench out of my vehicle....no way am I going to let anyone put it back....and I think that is perfectly within my right. hang tough on keeping your OWN areas smoke free.
