People, Places and Things
How many of us blame People, Places and Things for our smoking and or relapses or slips?
Well I sure can. But when you take responsibility for your own actions those three things have to go away. Go away? How do you do that?
I can only speak for myself and I am sure there are others who can share their ways.
First, people dont make smoke, I do. Now if being around certain people set off triggers I have to stay away from then for a while until my quit is secured. It is not their fault; it is the addiction and our actions. I have never had anyone hold me down and force a cigarette on me.
Second, places. Yes there are some places that set off the triggers big time. Some of those places I can stay away from, others not. So if I can stay away until I feel safe I do. But for the ones that cant be avoided I have my tool chest. It includes water, candy, affirmations, and lots of prayer. Again, there has never been a place that forced me to smoke; I was the one that smoked.
Things, you know things. Like when you were younger and you smoked to impress others. Things can include the smell of fresh coffee brewing, sitting outside and visiting with friends, a sad movie or thought. Things that is all they are. Today I am free of most things, but I am sure there are a few out there that will trip my triggers, but that doesnt mean I have to smoke.
So be aware of PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS.
