HOW DO YOU REIDENTIFY YOUR PERSONALITY

16 years ago 0 911 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Anxious1, People round here probably don't want to here from me on this subject so I won't elaborate but just tell you that it is normal. You know smoking was part of our entire being. Take it away and we are naked, scrambling for a comfortable identity. Don't want to be philosophical but do any of us truly know who we are or are some of us simply more comfortable with it? It was hard for me and it extended to my relationships with almost everybody in my life. Expect this, and expect that in time things heal. They do, I promise :) Audrey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 387 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,740 Amount Saved: $1,083.60 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 18 Mins: 52 Seconds: 46

Hi Anxioux1, This was the hardest part of the quit for me. I felt like I was missing something too. I didn't realize how defeated smoking had made me feel. It was a feeling that was hard to get rid of even after I had not smoked for several days. In fact the 3rd and 4th months just tugged at me with a defeated feeling. I know it sounds crazy but I now believe that my brain had to remember how it felt to not feel defeated. Just hang in there you will come out feeling like the winner you are. You're NOT a "doomed smoker," anxioux. You're a survivor fighting a great fight with 63 days to your credit! Good for you! I look up to you and the courage you are exhibiting! You're a winner in my book! I found Allen Carr's book for you! I've read it and found it very helpful! Full speed ahead, my friend! You can do it! There is another book by Allen Carr, two actually, one that is Easyway for Women to quit smoking, it must be different for women in order for him to write a seperat book, and then How to be a happy non smoker. Now, if I were in Europe, I am sure these are readily available at every bookstore. Not here, maybe because I am in Wisconsin...which, by the way does not make me a hick or a lover of cheese and brats!! I don't wear cheese shaped hats and could really care less about the Packers. So, I need to order these. I have also wasted some good cash on a bow flex excesise machine which is a pain to set up, real good distraction and a tread mill. My thoughts are good, lets see me get on it now. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,890 Amount Saved: $236.25 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 4 Mins: 10 Seconds: 54

Hi Anxious I'm glad you posted this, too. Freedom and I exchanged a few words last week that we were both having some weird days so I am glad to see her here as well. Hello I, too, feel like I am fighting with "something" but I don't know what the something is. I truly don't feel like I will run back to the cigs but I just don't know yet how to live without the weed. I think it certainly is a process that we have to experience. Changing, Lizzie, and Lainey all say that this will pass. They've been there and I know that they are right, but I also know how hard it can be when you just don't "feel it" sometimes. Here's to a new day - And remember "you can do this" Moss My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,200 Amount Saved: $270.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 22 Mins: 38 Seconds: 10

Anxioux1, You're feelings explain a lot to me. My wife quit the day after me, and now I understand her quit a little better. She still asks for someone to get her cigarettes. This even happened this week. I'm glad some of the other ladies explained their feelings as well. As I had said in some other posts, I found that women do seem to have a harder time quitting than men. In the 3 months here i have seen so many emotional highs and lows. You are a very strong woman, and you can handle it. You've already got over two months in. You're doing it!! Just always keep in mind "Post before you smoke". It will get better. I'm in a similar boat as you and had a few weeks that were quite tough and not something that I expected after that many days of not smoking. I believe this is normal and knowing that it is easier to dismiss the cravings now then it was the first 2 weeks provides me with some comfort that it does get easier. I also believe that it still takes some time to fully break a habit that you held for so long. (I smoked for 13 yrs so I assume it will take at least 5 yrs to fully break my habit!) I think the key is finding new things to distract you and taking the time to enjoy the fact that you don't smoke anymore. I think Unhooked has been an excellent example of showing us that there are many firsts when you have quit smoking. Find an activity that you couldn't or didn't enjoy as a smoker and see if that helps. I think we still need to keep our guard up so finding new distractions helps. Things like knitting, crosswords, exercise, etc. I have gone through some similar emotions lately so I hope this helps! Congrats on being a non-smoker and looking for support and advice before giving in to a craving!!!!! You are proving to yourself that you can do it! I believe all of you, it just gets mentally exhausting sometimes. One day I wake up and go..I think today is the day I feel like a new me...then the next day comes and my mind is all "SCREWED UP" again. I called into work yesterday for a mental health breather to just sleep and watch TV, I din't want to think anymore. I never call in, EVER. I needed that and it helped some, can't make a habit of sleeping all the time though, but its the only thing that makes my mind stop thinking about smoking or there lack of.!!
