Have you had a slip?

I did..... A small one on January 18. I felt terrible about it, but had deliberately gone into a smoking environment to test my resolve. As one would expect, that was a terrible idea, but my intention was to have a practice run before some friends came to town on the 23rd. I failed, but I did not come back to the site to change my quit meter, because I knew without a doubt that I would rationalize the fact that since I was starting all over again, I would smoke with my friends while they were visiting. In retrospect, that was the best idea for me. They are here, and I am not smoking!!!! I explained to them what was going on and they have been very supportive. So, I was glad to see Josie's post about there being no reason to take a backward step. I will keep going forward, and chalk the incident up as a learning experience that strengthened my will power. PS: Smokers really do smell bad, and cigarettes taste awfull. Whatever posessed me to indulge in that for 40 years???? My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 600 Amount Saved: $264.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 4 Mins: 41 Seconds: 25

Members, Have you or someone you know had a slip? Getting back on track after a small slip is easier than you think. Youve already made the tough decision to quit, so theres no reason to take a backward step. Here are some things you can do to immediately get yourself back on track: Remind yourself that your urge to smoke will not last forever. It will pass in a few minutes if you just wait it out. To be safe, look at your watch and check in with your craving level in 15 minutes. Change your routine. Control your surroundings. Dont put yourself in places where people smoke, or places where you used to go to light up. Renew your commitment to quitting by getting support from people you trust. Tell them that you are having a tough time and ask for their help and patience. Feel free to join in and share what worked for you if you have had a slip. Josie
