Hi Dutch, I am 100 percent with you on being positive in my own life. It's unfortunate that a lot of the really positive posts here are deleted or moved out of areas that are normally not so optimistic... I read and respond now to positive posts, almost exclusively, whenever I have time. That's the beauty of SSC though, we can take what we want and leave the rest. I hope the few things I do post will have a small influence on someone who is struggling and I also bump occasionally to try to pay it forward. Although I have always been fairly optimistic, I started really thinking positive just a few weeks before I started my quit. I dont for one second believe all this was any accident. I had help from somewhere when I chose to be positive while alone in the darkest hour of night, unable to breathe and feeling helpless and afraid. Within hours my life had started to improve. I began formulating a plan on how to make the changes needed to become the person I was meant to be. Within weeks my life had changed into a very positive direction and my plans were getting detailed and being put into action. Now, just a few short months later my plans have been implemented and my entire life is dramatically different. I am so much happier than I ever thought I would be. There is no limit to the joy I can see in my future now. I live, I laugh, and I love in complete freedom. Ive finally found and used the keys to the knowledge I needed to replace my fears and set myself free from not just my addiction to nicotine, but to all that was negative in my life. Its still a work in progress, but I am happy and at peace with myself. My quit has been joyful, not a hardship. I will never smoke again because I choose not to. Luv to all, Pat :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,262 Amount Saved: $1134 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 12 Mins: 24 Seconds: 31

Very true, You can make it as hard or as easy for yourself to quit, all in your attitude. It is a matter of looking at the glass half full rather than half empty. It really is like a lot of things in life, if you expect to fail, you in all likelyhood will fail. Expect the best! Prepare yourself! Come into this quit with the headset that "I CAN do this, I WILL do this! NOTHING can stop me" If you can bring this attitude, your chances of success are far greater! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,138 Amount Saved: $474.75 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 11 Mins: 53 Seconds: 21

Hi Dutch, While I believe that a winning quit is a long, gradual process, I also think that being positive where possible really helps. So does laughter! It's also important for quitters to distinguish between bad days and bad 'craving' days. As you say, non-smokers have bad days too! all the best Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 430 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,913 Amount Saved: 3225 Life Gained: Days: 70 Hrs: 3 Mins: 32 Seconds: 36

Dutch, I alway say turn your negatives to positives and your fear to faith. Hi Dutch, You are absolutely right. What easier way to beat smoking than to be completely positive in all you think and do? I don't understand what there is to dislike about that creed. Anyway, it doesn't affect me because I'm done with it. All the Best to you Penitent d1066

Hi Dutch Fini, I think you are absolutely right about the power of developing a positive mindset towards quitting and using that mindset to minimize the pain of involuntary thoughts of smoking. After awhile it's a psychological game (battle?) to recondition one's mind. The problem is, everyone's makeup is different. Body, brain, genetics, outlook and past experience. It's not as easy as flipping a switch, having a good outlook and it's all better for everyone. I read and studied the most popular book in the US that helps people to make that "easy" attitude flip. That was years ago and I couldn't/didn't quit. Thousands of people relapse after three months smoke free. So for me I see a danger of having the attitude that "I've made it" after three months. My mind and past habits may just sneak in and ruin all I have worked so hard for. I feel I owe this quit to my determination to quit, but also equal parts, Chantix (which is actually chemically affecting my brain to make it easier to get through the first few months!) and being part of this support group, which has actually reinforced my positive spirit. I sure wish recovery from nicotine addiction was just a matter of positive attitude for EVERYONE after 1-3 weeks. I probably wouldn't have smoked the last 30 years after quitting for about a year when I was 16! Just food for thought! You're doing good work. You're trying to help people. I'm sure your book will help many people with its message. All The Best, Mike My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 168 Amount Saved: $28 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 9 Mins: 11 Seconds: 3

Dutch, I totally agree with you. I think the more positive I am the better it is for me. Yes, I still have some bad days, and yes some are from quitting and some are not. It just so happens that the bad day has triggered a crave to smoke so that makes the bad day just a little worse. But, I have found that the more positive I try and be the easier the days are and I don't think about smoking as much. Here is to positive thinkers!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,234 Amount Saved: $245 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 5 Mins: 34 Seconds: 16

Hello quitters, A few times a week I come here and read the posts. I used to come here every day but I don't want that anymore. Most of the posts are too full of complains. After 3 or more months you should think that the worst is over. The nicotine is long gone and still people say they have a hard time. I think that people should change the negative thought for positive thoughts. It takes the same energy only you feel way better. For example: One person thinks after 3 months: OMG what a hard day I have today, that is because I quit smoking and that is why I feel so bad. That person has a bad feeling and that feeling won't go away that day. Another person thinks: I have a hard day today but that has nothing to do with quitting smoking. Everyone, smoker or non-smoker has a hard day now and then. I am so happy that I do not have to smoke anymore. That person will feel better because it has nothing to do with quitting. What I really mean to say is this, you can change your mind if you have a bad day. For now. have a great day, Love Dutch :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 383 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,501 Amount Saved: 1129.85 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 8 Mins: 12 Seconds: 1
