Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. You guys sure are encouraging and inspiring. The weekend was a little rough. My mind was playing games with me. Like out of nowhere, I would be thinking maybe I could just smoke in the evening or maybe just on weekends. Don't know what that was all about, but thankfully I got through it. Yesterday, Day 9 was really great. Honestly, I didn't think about smoking hardly at all. Just every once in a while I would get a little urge, but it passed ever so quickly. Here's hoping today will be just as good. I know that I am not out of the woods yet, but darn it sure feels good. I never thought I could do this. Oh, and I made a dentist appointment. Find myself brushing my teeth alot. Guess I like the fresh feeling it gives me. Have a good days guys and thanks again for the support. :)

Mimi, it seems like around the 3 week mark I was like, "wow, I feel pretty good..." Baby yourself, you are recovering from poisoning your body. Treat yourself well. Whiten your teeth, get a manicure, facial, new haircut. You are creating a new and improved you! I agree with what has been said. Having quit a number of times, it seems that every quit is different. However, you can be guaranteed that you will get to that stage when it will all seem worthwhile, and it will be. However, feeling better is often the time when we let our guard down and succumb to the call of the demon. The feel-good days are often the days when we try "one" just to see what it is like and believe me you're right back where you started. Congrats on your day Five - High Five :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/6/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 455 Amount Saved: $169.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 5 Mins: 37 Seconds: 46

Hi Mimi, Good for you on 5 days already. The fact that you've made it this far on your own is great. Holler whenever you need to. There were some days when I thought it would never get better, but the next day would come and it would be better. Then I'd have a couple rough days and then a few good ones. And the cycle would repeat that way. But it starts to balance out and you get a taste of life without feeding the addiction. I guess "when" is a little different for everyone. I just followed the advice of the vets here and tried to take it one day at a time. You can too. Congrats on your decision to make a better life. Every quit is different, and eveyr body is different, so there's no date that we can give you on feeling better, but things usually taper off after the first week and then linger for another week or two. When you feel better physically - the real work begins. Congrats on your decision and on coming here! We're looking foreward to going on this journey with you! Hello Mimi, You will notice great benefits of not smoking almost immediatly, 3 days after the last cigarette Bronchial tubes start to relax, making breathing easier. Lung capacity begins to improve. 2 to 12 weeks after the last cigarette walking and aerobic exercises become easier. 1 month after the last cigarette circulation improves, you can also experience more energy. 1 to 3 months after the last cigarette your lung function increases up to 30 percent. Bronchial cilia begin to re-grow, there is an increased ability to clean lungs, chances of infection are reduced, and pollutants are cleared. Overall body energy increases. 1 to 12 months after the last cigarette coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease. You should defenitly be proud of yourself for the accomplishment, keep your eye on your goal and don't forget to reward yourself! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator
