Hey OneMoreTry! Keep on trying, it is such a mental battle the first while, you have to really fight hard sometimes to overcome that voice in your head that wants you to give in and smoke! You need to find strategies for coping when you have a bad time! Keep trying though! Sooner or later it will work! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 317 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,925 Amount Saved: $3,344.35 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 15 Mins: 44 Seconds: 21

Hi Kristilu. I read the post you had about the couch to running program and looked it up on-line. It looked pretty good, so I printed it out last week. I generally try to walk 1-3 kms a couple of times a week, and decided to start the program last night on the treadmill. It was a bit of a workout, but I felt really good after. I'll do Day 2 of the workout program tomorrow again after work. I will, and Freedom26 was going to be running or is running too. I've been walking, now, this is my 2nd week, was going to start throwing in some running next week. I had told her I found a program online that's supposed to take you from the couch to running 3-5k in 8 weeks. I just searched for it and it came up. I was thinking that would be so cool to be able to do that and do the July 4th 5K, that would give me such a sense of accomplishment, and it would be around my 6 month anniversary! Kristilu, that's a great idea! I'm sure not all of us are runners, but if you will, I will. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24 Amount Saved: $8.16 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 55 Seconds: 33

OMT - when we all get to running we'll have to start a thread posting how far we've ran and keep up with it. That will keep us going maybe... Deck, I don't think any of the January quitters actually quit on New Years Day. (unless those are the Jan. 2 quit dates...?) But, if you look, you'll see there are a lot of Jan. 14 (myself) and other dates in January. And the way I see it, this is not a "New Years Resolution" but a promise to remain smoke-free. (I hate the word "resolution") Oh, and you are definitely not alone in gaining some extra weight. I found that running was a great way to keep myself from gaining in my last quit. It actually was a great motivator to keep from smoking too. Every day I felt my lung capacity increase and I started running further and faster. I am looking forward to getting back into that again. Good luck, and keep posting. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24 Amount Saved: $8.16 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 54 Seconds: 36

Hi Deck. Welcome to the January quitters! I wasn't ready to do the "New Years" quit either, so we set our date on Dec. 5th to quit on Jan. 3rd instead. That gave us a full month of preparing for our quit, and not making a spontaneous decision. I felt it took a bit of pressure off and gave us more time to practice our quit and make some required changes. We wanted the choice of quit day to be ours, and not set around some resolution that I didn't know if we could keep. Welcome to the Jan. club and best of luck!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/3/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 260 Amount Saved: $98.80 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 15 Seconds: 8

It's not quite day one again for me but the umpteenth quit over the last two years. I was on a quit for 10 months and relapsed and every quit since then has lasted not more than 3 weeks. It's the pits really. To have gone through all of the difficult part of the quit only to let up when you are over the worst of it. I guess I can consider myself a January quitter even though I was not as courageous as some of you to start on Jan 1st. I need all the encouragement I can get as the one issue I cannot seem to deal with and that is weight gain. Through every quit I have gained weight and never lost any. 26lbs in the last two years. It could be worse I agree but I just look like I swallowed a football as it is all concentrated in the middle. As long as you are still quitting then you have nothing to feel bad about. With each relapse I learned a little more about quitting. Keeps me humble. You will do it!!
