Yay, Kartemy!!! What a great way to start my morning...hearing your positive decision (well, reading it, anyway...lol). Thank you for that. Many of us swear by drinking ice cold water - helps get rid of the toxins as well as gives our hands and mouths something to do. Good for you for planning ahead for your evening. Make sure to pamper yourself a bit, too. A nice long shower or bath, a good dvd or book, scented candles to go along with your nice clean house. :) I know we don't know each other - yet, but could you do me a favor? Promise to post a message for HELP if you feel like you're going to cave, then go take a shower or something, come back and read any responses, before you light up? I have a feeling you're going to be a winner in this fight, and I know that little technique has saved quite a few quits. Let us know how we can help, okay? Hi Kathy, Today is a great day to be a quitter!! Welcome and congratulations on deciding to be a nonsmoker! You will be so glad that you are doing this. The first few days will really test you but, stay strong, talk yourself out of taking another puff, post your way through cravings, keep your coping mechanisms at hand, and know it will get better! It really does and it really is worth it. There are so many great threads here on this site stating just how wonderful life is without smoking. Try to read as much as possible and soon you will have a huge list of your own! :) All the best to you and know that you are never alone here G :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 177 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,310 Amount Saved: $849.60 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 5 Mins: 52 Seconds: 21

Thanks, folks. I've smoked for nearly 30 years and always said I'd quit but it had to be when I was ready. I didn't want to do a half hearted attempt because I felt pressure from outside sources, fail and then lose my motivation. It's now 4.5 hours, and still only the one NRT. I'm under no illusions that it will all be this easy but it's a decent start. The test will be tonight when I'm home. I intend to spend the evening washing and spraying every soft surface in the house to clear out the smell. Thanks again!

Kathy, Hi and welcome, It's great that you're in the pipe and that by now, as i write this, you're four hours smoke free... Stay strong and tough and keep reading the posts here... they're giving me the backbone I've lacked for decades.... Kathy, Welcome and congratulations on your decision to quit!! If you have the right mindset and want to be quit more than you want to smoke you will be giving yourself every opportunity to succeed. That approach combined with willpower and determination will see you through to a happier, fitter and more contented life if that is what you want and it seems from your initial post that that is really what you want!! Believe me, it is there for you - take it! All the Best Penitent d1336 :)

Hello all, I just wanted to say this out loud (well, sort of, typed out loud anyway lol). I made this decision a week ago and have spent the last 7 days gearing up and mentally preparing myself. I have to say that overall my feeling has been excitement more than anything. The thought of being smoke free - no more huddling outside in the winter, no more feelings of isolation with non-smoking friends, no more smell in my house, on my clothes, in my car and on my dogs. I've made the decision to not say "I'm trying to quit smoking" but to say "I'm a non-smoker" to myself, it just feels more encouraging. It's all good. I'm two hours into my day and have made it past morning coffee and the half hour drive to work with the help of an NRT losenge. Two hours in, the rest of my life to go! Cheers everyone and best wishes and good thoughts to everyone else. Kathy
