What went well and what could we improved upon?

For me, I really don't feel as though I had intense cravings as much as I had a lot of habitual triggers. First was the morning coffee, and everything else just kind of followed the routine. I have noticed over the last two months on the SSC, and with my wife's quit, is that it seems a lot harder for women to quit. Some of you might remember the problem I had with my wife yelling at me all the time. This is slowly subsiding, but she still is sarcastic about almost anything she sees or hears. I think, because i also see some women slip in their quit, that maybe they need some more emotional support. I'm not a doctor, so I'm not sure how this could take place, but maybe it's something that needs to be addressed. I don't know if this makes sense because I received so much support from the people here, that my quit was, and is, fairly painless because I knew what to expect from day to day. Happy New Year to ALL. You are all the greatest, and I'm looking forward to a smoke free 2008. For me the cravings started to hit way back in November. I know I was going through all the firsts such as raking leaves and other things that I would reward myself for a job well done with a smoke. As the season came closer so the craves became stronger and instead of posting here I have sort of just been lurking around. On Christmas day I did have 2 smokers here and asked them to please step outside if they were going to smoke and they did. Last week I just felt like if I didn't do something I was surely going to lose my quit so what worked for me was getting on the phone with my doctor and going back on the Chantix. It may be a crutch but it is the crutch I need right now to stay smoke free. Thanks Stickin for helping us to reflect back. You guys were sure right to warn us about the holiday craves! I was cruising right along with my quit, feeling quite comfy, then came the holidays! All of a sudden I was thinking about smoking A LOT! I just kept super busy. I kept going and going and going, like the Energizer Bunny! Next time I will need to have something specific planned for a break now and then. What saved my quit today and yesterday was the thought that I may never have another quit left in me. I was looking though one of my journals and saw that I was smoke free last year during the holidays. I was on one of my longest quits then, made it to 50 days and bamm it was gone. Then there was a two or three more attempts to where I got to this one. This year I seemed to sadder for reasons I won't go into, but I knew smoking wouldn't change anything except my quit date and never ever want to do that again. When I have a trigger now and then I know what they are and just tell myself that I did this to myself, just wait it out and it will pass. Those that never smoked will never understand those awful craves or triggers. Ginette your social life will get better. I remember staying away from friends because I didn't want to put my quit in danger. I also remember feeling like a complete air head and nothing I said made any sense. LOL Thanks Sticken for the topic. My quit is as comfortable as I chose to make it. Quitting smoking is a choice and I choose to not to smoke today. lol Grin I had the usual urge as I finished cooking each meal, but just noticed it and instead took a non-smoke break out on the lanai for a minute before eating. I just realized that during a fairly serious discussion with my daughter and SIL I never once thought of smoking. That is amazing. Highly emotional times have always been major triggers for me. Wow! I think I really am becoming a non-smoker. Doodles, How ARE you handling the smoking spouse being home? Good for you on the success of Christmas. I'm gonna offer you two suggestions for the New Years Eve bash - have a printed out post from here to carry with you, and ask a friend or family member to be your "quit guardian" so that if you are tempted to have "just a puff" or "just one" you can go to that person and have them talk some sense into you. Those two things saved my quit early on during a vacation. Other than that, have a blast! You deserve it! A toy store, huh? Do you by any chance carry Ravensburger games? I have a hard time finding them here. Happy Holidays, Thank you Stickin! the great thing about not smoking this holiday is that I did not feel that horrible stress driving the 1 1/2 hour to my sister's house,to and from. Great drive, I never stresses about getting there, and getting my nic fix! Also, I had people say, wow, you really look good, you are glowing. LOL the last time I heard that, I was pregnant :gasp:!! YEA!!!!!!!!! Smoke free on Christmas, my first one in a very long time.. The day was VERY long with on and off thoughts or craves, nothing very strong. But, my husband still smokes so it would have been very easy to bum one..... At the end of the day was the hardest..My craves or thoughts were soooo strong!!! I just kept thinking "GO TO BED"....Yes, I finally went to bed without smoking.. If I can get through this season without a cig, I can do anything!! You see, I own a toy store & have 3 children and a very demanding family!!! My husband has been working out on town since Thanksgiving. I feel so relieved that this is all over, for now. I am feeling so self confident, I am planning a rowdy New Years Eve gathering!!! Don't worry Ginette! (Or anyone else) It's a recovery, it takes time and you will return to normal and feel like your old self, only better, you will be your new non smoking self!!! I had the odd fleeting thought here & there today, but that is all they will ever be, as I intend to be smoke free...forever! Smoking is not an option, NOPE! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 295 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,375 Amount Saved: $3,112.25 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 2 Mins: 32 Seconds: 20

Well, my social life stinks. I went over for turkey supper tonight at a friend's and I couldn't stay very long. I was antsy and edgy and I wanted to be alone so I came home. Is this normal? I can't imagine being like this for the rest of my life. I need some improvement in that department. I hope these feelings are going to be only temporary. I don't know what to do to improve my situation. The turkey supper was wonderful but I just couldn't stay and chat with my friends. I've been like this since I quit smoking. I want to avoid everything and everybody.
