Worse during the Holiday Season?

19 years ago 0 98 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Holidays can be stressful for many. For example, my mother died just before the holidays in November 1976. That could be a big reason I have trouble around this time. But it does not always have to be the way of a sad holiday season. I am rolling with it this year and trying new things. Hope you deal with yours better. Any ideas how to make things better? David

I was thinking this today and after being panic free for several years I was wondering if it was the holidays contributing to my setback. When I read your post this evening it also brought to mind even when I was a child I was always sick on the holidays....

Yes indeed. My anxiety level seems to have increased, once again, just in time for the holidays. It also goes along with me being off triavil. I got off it for good in September. I take valium now to cease the anxiety. I get sad around the holidays and that brings on anxiety and panic can follow. I do all I can to take care of it. I eat right, exercise all the time and keep busy. I also have this relaxation CD that works, but I need to keep doing it. Usually in January, when all the craziness of the holiday season is gone, I get back to somewhat normal feelings. But, I do have my good and bad days. I had several seconds that were scary today. Valium and controled breathing helps. Hope you feel better. David

I have been on medication for panic for about 3 months. I take Zoloft daily and Klonopin (.5mg) at night. My panic attacks were occuring at night. I have had panic attacks for over 15 years but this is the first time I have ever have had to take medication for it. I was going to stop taking the Klonopin after my husbands 2 big business trips (one week each) but my dr. and I agreed that I can continue taking it until after the holidays. The holidays do contribute. To me, it's a "good" stress in that I love the holidays. I love wrapping presents, decorating, baking and this year I'm adding some charity work (which I've always wanted to do.) I love doing it all, but it still is stressful. There is a time limit (Dec 25th:). I find that if I spend a little extra time in prayer and Bible study at night and remember to relax my body, I can handle it better and I feel it less. In the past, even when I was controlling my anxiety and panic without medication, the holidays would increase my general anxiety level. Now I have 2 kids who have November birthdays-another thing I've added in the past years. Rachel

Anyone find their panic/anxiety is worse during the holidays? I was truly doing so well that I rarely even took the Xanax. Now, I am back on it daily. I feel the panic constantly under the surface just waiting to break out. Sigh. It is like constant anxiety there and nothing I do is making it go away. It is so depressing. I HATE panic/anxiety.
