Anger and Fear

Bear, I bumped a thread for you called The Slipping Game. Many share in the frustration of slipping. Some slip and return for a stonger forever quit. Unfortunately, most do not. I guess it is the nature of the addiction. Hang on to your quit and cherrish it every day. It is precious. Lots of good discussion here. Unfortunately, it is fairly common reaction. The anger probably stems from resentement. Please know that it is normal and that your quit should be dependent of you only. Get back to basics if it helps. Review your reasons for quitting, what you love about your quit and reward yourself for working so hard. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Hey Bear - First of all, Thanks for the words of wisdom on my Neutral thread. Secondly, since I began reading here about 2 months ago you have always tweaked my interest, made me curious about you. What I like about you is that you just put it out there. Anybody who has read a few of your posts knows that you care deeply about the people here. I see your smoke free days and wonder what it must have been like for you to quit at the age of 67-68. If I may borrow your words, "This old man" has been an inspiration to me. But I still would not want to meet you in a dark alley if you were in a really bad mood. Bear I do not hear your anger at anyone. What I am hearing it the anger at this addiction. What you may be doing is seeing people when in reality it is the monster. Yes we get angry, we get disappointed, and we get sad. When you, Bear, get angry it shows everyone how much you really do care, and when you are disappointed and sad you are thinking what could I have done. You do it all by being here. Bear I have slipped more than I can remember, but the one constant in my quits was SSC. It was the people, it was the welcoming back, it was the warmth I feel every time I come here. I thank God every day for this site and for the people who come here. It was the people (you) that made me want to come back and try and try again. So go out side and scream at the beings, be grateful that you have feelings for others and don't smoke. I promise not to smoke today. Bear, you're just upset! Welcome to the world of non smokers...where you feel the feelings and then let them go, instead of drowning them in smoke! We are all addicts here. We are all addicts who are just one step away from our drugs and that is why we need to be diligent and aware. But please remember we are human beings and as such, sometimes life doesn't go as planned! Sometimes crap happens! What now??? Do the best you can do! Be the best you can be, with what you have. We are addicts, so we have to do what we have to do! If that means taking a step backward sometime, so be it. It is so much better to have a step backward, than to fall, and lay in the path and saying "I can't." Keep your chin up Bear! Life sometimes gives us lemons, so lets get out the sugar or the Tequila as the case may be! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 296 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,400 Amount Saved: $3,122.80 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 3 Mins: 54 Seconds: 54

Please don't misunderstand my intention here I'm simple expressing what I feel when somebody slips or relapses. I'm not trying to centre anybody out and probable there's some self preservation going on. When this happens I get right bloody angry don't ask me why all I do know there's a lot going on here and I could get verbally absusive if it was allowed but thankfully we have moderators to keep me inline. My second reaction is fear and this is the one I dislike the most.I don't like being afraid because it points out the little bit of instabilty still attached to my own quit you see after all this time I still ask myself why did I bother quitting at my age. I won't smoke of course as much as I enjoyed it for whatever reasons because I would probable feel to dam guilty after.A lot of people have invested there time, energy and caring in this old man and I would feel like I had let them and myself down after all this time. Well thats all I have to say on this matter once again thanks for listening and have a great day. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 281 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,058 Amount Saved: $2,810.00 Life Gained: Days: 64 Hrs: 3 Mins: 46 Seconds: 36
