Starrider,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad and I'll be praying for him. Please know that a mini stroke can be overcome with physical therapy when the damage isn't severe. He's in good hands at the hospital. Please give yourself permission to feel hopeful.
No matter what happens, your smoking will not help in any way, shape or form and he would be proud of you for keeping your quit. I too understand the helpless feeling when you're far away. Maybe you can write him a letter or make plans to send something special to him while he recovers. Even researching his condition might make you feel better.
I'm glad you've made the promise not to smoke tonight. You're doing a great job...try not to worry. Happy New Year.
:)
