Real anxiety attack

I did take, as precribed a valium tonight at around 5:30. I had been taking it early which might have been causing some problems. I think my running for nearly 20 minutes today helped a lot. IT's good to get the wind going. I usually ride the bike hard or do the stairs, but there's nothing like the physical and emotional rush you get from a good run. Iced my ankle afterward. LOL. Though I was scared last night, I feel I did the nessecary things today to help myself. Though I called in sick for my part time job, I am currently at my full-time job and also made a delivery for my father's store. I needed the morning off so I called in sick. I never do that. The piano playing really did wonders for me. Thanks for the thoughts. These moments we got through are only temporary. There were moments in the last week where I felt nearly perfect (if that's an actual reality). Hope you'll be well too. Thanks again David

Wrestler, Just wanted you to know thinking about you and sending positive energy your way. If I had all the answers and applied them correctly everytime, I wouldnt be posting on this site. It is in my nature to try and help others, Today, with no stressors that i could find I started thinking I feel dizzy, off balance then I noticed my heart was beating faster, Sure hope I dont pass out Wouldnt it be bad to pass out while you were driving. I went from fine to very anxious in about 5 minutes. I was actually laying on the couch scaring myself. I just began to tell myself , you are fine , you know you are and what ever happens you are able to deal with it. From now on we can do this together, when ever we find ourselves scaring our self we STOP ( picture big red stop sign) and then regardless of anythign else we repeat we are fine , no need to worry. God Bless You

Thank you so much. In my past, I used to always think the tingling and closed-in feeling was some sort of me losing control. But I learned later that it was my body doing its job to protect me from further worry and, as you said, adreniline rush. I had these epiosodes in high school a lot. They came outa nowhere. Always been an anxious person. The amazing thing about last night's was that I felt amazingly relieved a while later. At first I was very scared. But later I felt so relieved and calm the rest of the night. I have been off my anti-psycotic for over 2 months now and I am sure this is some getting used to it. I see my doctor on Monday for my 1/2-year checkup and I will discuss this with him. I also see my pshycotherpist later in the week. To really calm myself today, I played the piano by candlelite for an hour in tribute to my mother. She loved the piano. That really helped me. Of course, then I went to the gym. LOL. I might add, that I only had about 4 hours of sleep last night, but these days are rare. I am usually getting 6 plus. Which leaves me wide awake. If I have too many short nights in a row, then I get worried. Thanks for your caring post That meant a lot to me, David

Wrestler, you said a great thing about."its a chemical thing your body does for your protection". If you had a cold and one of your symptons was a cough and you try and fight the cough it will make you miserabley and tired instead of just coughing and letting your body do what it needs to get better, you may need to take some medicine to help you threw the symptons, but in the end you know with rest and time you will get better. Thats the same way your body is reacting to the stess or the mixed messages it is getting from our moods and negative thoughts. It sends adrenline to protect it from the feelings of fear we just gave our body and in return we get more stressed and send more adreline to keep the symptons alive. If we don't over react to the symptons. In return we give our body no more adrenline. The very thing we don't like to feel. When we get our bodies calmed down and not trying to fight it. We will always have times of stress and we will have adrenline runnig threw our bodies, it just won't be so noticeable. It seems to me that you already know about the chemical part just wanted to emphasize on that part. Because I think that is a big part of the puzzle to this disorder. Im glad you were feeling better.

I've had near misses the past few months. TOnight I had the classic anxiety attack, complet with the tingling and closed in feeling you get when your body starts its defense. I used to get this all the time in high school. Tonight, going to work I felt strange. I felt cautiously good, but something did not feel right. It was a stressful night and there are certain factors involved. I am on valium only, as well as natural methods. I was on prozac and triavil for 10 years and always had setbacks. My factors are, it's November, which is the anniversary of my mother's deaths (November 13). I also was awaken to the disgusting news coverage of Arafat with thousands of his supporters all over TV. That agred me, being I am Jewish and all. Then I had to work alone in my department, with about 5-6 other people needing stuff from me (I work for a newspaper. So, I had OCD tonight and had taken 5 mg of valium before work. Around 7 p.m. I started to feel panicky. My mind would wonder and then I decided to take another 1/4 of a valium, which my prescription allows, then I had the classic anxiety attack, which I mentioned earlier where you feel closed in and tingly. But it was not as bad as in the past. I was actually quite relieved because I no longer felt tense or panicky. So, in a way, that feeling is a good thing, but it's also scary because it's a chemical thing your body does for protection. Anyone have anything to add? I am home now and well and ready for bed. David
