Weird phase-- any advice?

Wasn't the world supposed to stop and wait for me to get over my withdrawals!? Yes! The world is supposed to stop and wait! Wouldn't it be nice if we could all go to a detox centre for a month or two? I mean, really, they say that quitting nicotine is as hard (or harder) than quitting heroin or alcohol. They have detox centres for that, why not nicotine? :) Well, those are my thoughts anyway. Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury of putting our lives 'on hold' and we have to maintain our routines (work, chores, etc....bla!) But, what we can do is take fifteen minutes a day, or an hour a week, and REWARD OURSELVES! Go for a massage, take a bubble bath, buy something new for yourself, or just do something that makes you feel good and remind yourself of how much you deserve it. Hey Deb, During your darker moments please remember that you are doing this for YOU. As time passes, the need for accolades will reduce to nil and you will become self-congratulatory in the most spectacular way. After all said and done, quitting is a very personal thing and in your quieter moments you will find yourself smiling and content when you realise what a wonderful thing you have done for yourself. It may be hard now but tough it out; your self-esteem is about to soar and with it comes a feeling that you cannot bottle nor buy!! Good Luck and Keep Smiling!!! Penitent d1287 :)

Dear cvdeb, At 21 days it is quite common for you to feel the way you do. Many people have felt this way( I remember how it felt!)....it's to be expected.....the initial 'fire' within you when you first quit has gone, and, as you say other people have 'forgotten' your quit. YOU must not forget why you quit....do keep reminding yourself. It is at these times more than any other you need to love yourself and give yourself little rewards, (as Alohakeia said.) As she also said....remind those who know you to keep up the praise. LET THEM KNOW THAT QUITTING IS A LONG TERM PROJECT! In your very busy schedule, make time to come to this site.....nobody here will be fed up hearing about your quit, you have a built in support setup, and, as you get to know everyone better, you will be re-energised in your quit... I 'lived' on this site for the first few months of my quit, and the positive vibes and caring I received are what kept me focused, and gave me more determination to succeed. IT WORKS DEB! Deb, I hear ya, and then if you have co-workers that quit they almost are ready for you to fail, I think mine still are. Your kids might not be giving you the props you need right now, but I bet they will remember your strength,your quit, your doing this for yourself and apply it to their life lessons down the road. You are setting an excellent example for them. Meanwhile I will be your personal cheering section, and I second Aloha, I need to hear about some rewards! I bought Fern Michaels whole backlist when I quit and read the whole thing to take my mind of smoking. I combed used bookstores, etc...it gave me something to do. I am so glad you posted this, your honesty makes it real for everyone not posting the same issue. I am very proud of you, this is a wonderful journey we are on, not easy at times, I sure do know that, even after 8 mo. but my motto is still NOPE. Hey Deb Good for you for noticing what you're missing and what you think would help. First off, remember, smoking is not a good thing you get to do and now are being deprived of. NOT smoking is the good thing. Part of the difficulty is that we used to use cigs to reward or amuse ourselves. Your brain needs rewards so it can readjust to not having nicotine flowing through it. So, since you've saved almost $150.00 already, I think you should begin rewarding yourself on a regular basis. I know, single mom, you don't have miney to treat yourself. But, you sure would find a way to come up with the $7.00 a day for cigs. So, how about buying yourself a little treat for the drive? A special drink, a new cd, a book on cd? You deserve it!!!!! I don't know who your support system is, but it might be helpful to let them know you still need an occasional "Atta Girl!" for sticking with this amazing endeavor. Most kids are still too "Me centered" to remember to congratulate others, much less their parents. But, let me tell you, Deb..... You are doing absolutely great!!!!!! These ups and downs come and go...just ride it out, and do what you did here..ask for help. And pretty soon you will be counting months not days, and feel even more proud of yourself. OK, I want to know what you decided on to reward yourself...I mean it!!!! Hi All-- Still going semi-strong, but feel myself petering out and figured I better reach out. I've been a little quiet lately, preferring to hang back and read. Okay, so here's the issue. I'm on my 20th day, and no one around me notices anymore that I'm not smoking (i.e. To my son, "Today is my 20th day!" Reply: "Do you have 20 bucks?!"). All the fanfare has died down, including my own enthusiasm. I know that this is normal (I'm pretty sure I'm not the center of the universe) :) But I'm having to dig a little deeper to find the daily strength to not smoke, and quite frankly, I'm tired. I'm a single mom working two jobs that I have to commute over 2 hours to get to and from....kids, dishes, garbage, that whole showering thing, carting wood around to supply heat, kissing boo boo's, soothing bosses, bills..... Blah blah blah. Tired, folks! Wasn't the world supposed to stop and wait for me to get over my withdrawals!? :) I don't want to smoke (especially after reading Sue's post), but I'm trying to figure out how to re-motivate myself now that my support system has decided to prematurely retire themselves. I'm sure that others have gone through this. There must be some common slow down after the initial rush of the quit. I could use some advice. Or a cyberhug-- something. Is there any way to make this phase a little more comfortable? What did you do when you hit this phase? Is this a fairly common phase? How long did it last for you?
