Hi Karen, By doing the online quit program here at scc, you will understand what you need to do to get started. As you will learn, it takes many people a few attempts at this quitting journey before they stay quit; then some quit the first time and never have another puff. You will find your way. You have the desire; now, make a plan..set your quit date, get your coping tools together, (peppermint, gum, hard candy, sunflower seeds..whatever you decide), think about what the biggest triggers are for you to smoke, ie after a meal, on breaks at work, and plan on what you will do at those times instead of smoking,(take a short walk, listen to music, do a crossword puzzle, read a novel)..something that distracts you from the cravings. Educate yourself about this drug, nicotine, and then make your committment. I found it helpful during some of my quits to do a little ceremony on my quit date, like bury my last pack and say a little prayer..one time I broke one cigarette in pieces for everyone of my 4 children. It is your quit. You can do this. Let us know your "freedom date" as I like to call it. You will be glad that you find your way out of this horrible addiction. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 162 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,888 Amount Saved: $810.00 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 7 Mins: 26 Seconds: 0

First question Karen. Do you want to be quit more than you want to smoke? If the answer to that question is yes, you have a great platform from which to make a quit stick whichever way you choose to do it, cold turkey or with some sort of NRT or other support (Allen Carr, hypnosis, acupuncture etcetera). If however the answer is no, you will have difficulties. I hope the answer is YES! :) Good Luck! More tips Karen, If you click on the title "Introduce yourself", it will show you all the threads from new people starting here, and they will say what NRT they are using and how it is going etc etc. You can click on all the threads that way and see lots and lots of them, full of helpful info! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 244 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,100 Amount Saved: $2,574.20 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 18 Mins: 27 Seconds: 35

Hi Karen. No one can tell you what NRT to use. Thats up to you. Lots of us have tried so many times, and used many different types. It doesn't seem to matter so much what you use, it seems to matter how determined, how positive, how ready, and how able you are to do it! The first step is to go thru the program here. Read everything you can read in this program and website. There is alot of information here, especially on the old posts. Learn everything you can, about how to quit, what will happen, how it will feel, what to expect. Plan ahead and be ready. Be positive, it really is a wonderful thing. Nicotine is a dangerous drug that to me is just as bad an addiction as crack or heroine. Realize that you are an addict and treat yourself that way, it helps to understand that because you need to learn that cannot go back to smoking! When you are ready to go, pick a quit date and post it and we will help you get through it all, and you can help others too by sharing your journey, thats what this site is about! Hope this is helpful. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 244 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,100 Amount Saved: $2,574.20 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 18 Mins: 26 Seconds: 53

Text Hi everyone, Well I am new to this. I just wanted to no how you guys are coping quiting smoking!! I need to quit, and has been along time for me 25yrs. I have tryed once before but only lasted sad to say not even aday. Mood swings etc. Can anyone let me no how they started and what is the best approach to this. My mother quit , she used the nicatrol inhaler and the patch? Would this be a better option for me than trying to do it cold turkey, and when would be the best time to do it? I work in a stress full job!! Thanks so much Karen
