You guys are all doing great - hey don't yell at me, I'm trying to help! Just kidding. :p Anger is pretty normal the first month or so. I'm trying to find a great post that explains the emotional change from nicotine withdrawal. In the meantime, one of the mods posted this in another thread. It might help: Suggestions for dealing with stress: Instead of yelling, slamming doors, or ransacking the house for a cigarette, take a slow deep breath in through your nose to the slow count of five. Push your tummy out at the same time; this makes the air go deeply into your lungs. Slowly breathe out through your mouth to the count of seven. Repeat this 3 times as you feel yourself relaxing and the stress dropping away. Tension relieving exercises: You can do this wherever you are, whenever you feel the need. Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. Let go of the tension in your jaw. Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. As you exhale, let your shoulders drop (relax) and let your body "sink" into the chair or the floor. Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. Other general tips for dealing with stress while maintaining a quit: Listening to soft music Squeezing a tennis or stress ball Meditate and then have a short nap Having a long hot bath or shower Going for a brisk walk Reading a good book Doing a hobby like knitting, puzzles or woodworking Talk about your stress with your partner or close friend My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1184 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,680 Amount Saved: $5,328.00 Life Gained: Days: 90 Hrs: 10 Mins: 2 Seconds: 27

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

hello! It's been a bit over 2 weeks for me. Not easy- and I am very aggressive and annoyed at everything. Especially with my poor boyfriend, who drives me up the wall no mater what he does. He accepted it in the beginning- but is starting to get annoyed himself after being shouted at for the past two weeks. I never thouht stopping smoking would affect me so much... Hello to all october quitters- we will have to struggle through winter, clouds and sleet- and keep our motivation going! I'm planning to offer myself a spa day for my one month anniversary (if I make it :-)) A bit of warmth.... See you all soon! Keep going! Damn I forgot about the yoga class that I could have gone tonight if I had brought appropriate clothing :P Oh well, next week... I really needed it as well today. Someone is driving me up the walls today here at the lab :P I guess what I've been doing is just recognizing that I might get edgier than usual and breath in and out every time I start feeling like I'm going to blow up on someone :). Seems to have worked up to now... although today someone is really trying me hehehehe. But my advice is put a smile on instead and know it is temporary. good luck peeps! I'm angry too! Easily irritated, short and resentful, you name it. It should pass (I hope) so try not to worry about it too much. Ask those around you to be forgiving and understanding. And if you feel the need, hit something (preferably not your friends or family! ). I am going to yoga class tonight and hoping that will help relieve some stress from the week. :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 48 Amount Saved: $16.32 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 40 Seconds: 35

Hi guys. I thought I was doing so good and being so positive, but this morning I feel like a witch. I was irritated and short with my family. I'm mad at everyone. I feel like smoking, but I wont. I wonder if it is withdrawals still or just me being *itchy. I want to cry. I want to tell them I'm sorry, but they are at school and work. Martha! What an awesome thing to do...Thank you. I am an October quiter, on the 18th to be exact. I was planning on quitting on 11-01 and stumbled on a no-smoking site with tons of articles and information and saw this picture of a young man. He looked to be healthy and happy, in a picture with his little boy (he was 30 something) and the next picture was only 2 monthes later and he was laying in a bed with lung cancer and it was flat out awful...then I remembered my mom hooked up to the machines while she was in her last days... And I have not smoked since. I went cold turkey, but my hubby tends to tempt me at times, he does smoke. And even though he smokes outside, he will call me out with him and then offer me one. That has stopped now because he has paid the price for it several times over, between me putting them out in his drinks, crushing a pack, and now I am offering him stop smoking quotes and NRT's. We can all do this. Listen to Martha, you awesome October quitters, you! (This was a very nice thing to do, Martha, you awesome quitter, you ;) ) A group of us who quit last March have a support group within a support group going on here, The march Mellows. I think it's really helped to encourage us along the way. We always know someone cares whether we succeed or not. And there's always someone who is going through similar things in this journey. We've celebrated together, we've cried together, we've laughed together, we've hung on together, and mostly, we've quit together!!!! It seems like a lot of you have spouses who smoke. Just to let you know, I had a smoker in the house too, and I just got it clear from the start, this quit is mine...all mine, and nothing anyone else does has anything to do with it. And here I am, 7 months smoke free. It really can be done. I wish each of you the best in your own journies. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 224 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,960 Amount Saved: $1,523.20 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 7 Mins: 31 Seconds: 40

Another October quitter here. I also have a smoking husband and I can relate to those feelings of resentment and anger that he doesn't quit with me. I bought the Allen Carr book too. It's a great book. I gave it to my husband when I was done with it, but he hasn't read it yet. I guess he's not ready to quit. All I can do is show him how it's done and hope I inspire him. Goofy, thank you for the nice words. You are my inspiration! You will always be that one day ahead of me so as long as you don't slip, I won't slip. Promise. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 36 Amount Saved: $12.24 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 14 Seconds: 4

Hi Marie- You are not alone. None of my friends smoke either. They try to be supportive, but they really can't relate. My husband smokes outside too. He is pretty careful not to leave cigarettes laying around, but it is hard for me not to be a little resentful that he is smoking. He is on Chantix too, but is having trouble quitting completely. Today I went to the book store and bought him Allen Carr's book on CDs. He said he wants to quit and he'll listen to them. Congratulations on day 10 of being smoke free! That is so awesome that you are doing it cold turkey! You are a strong woman. October 25th 7:00 PM was my last smoke. There are a lot of people on the other forums. The person that has helped me most, stopped 12 hours after I did...One more try. She inspired me...now I'm almost to 96 hours. Thanks OMT.
