I failed the effort to stop NRT.

Tryagain, You need to make a decision and stick to it. NRTs are there to help you with your initial nicotine dependance. You should talk to a doctor of pharmasist about some other options. Brenna Bilingual Health Educator

Try again, keep on quitting one day at a time. If it's later than sooner for you, than so be it, you will do it in the end. We have all used junkie talk, after all, we're addicts and always will be. Take time to reflect on what you're feeling and you will realise that it's part of the addiction, so are the excuses, whatever happens in your life can't be fixed with a cig on a gum, but of course you know that..... Take whatever time you need, wheen down slowly and it will happen for you. Wish you the best. I am really disappointd Tryagain, that you didn't give it any more time than four days. You said you wanted to have what we have. You won't be able to when you keep putting Nicotine back in to your body. I don't know how else to help you. We have seen others on here from time to come, come in and say they have abused the NRT's and been on them for months or a year, only to tell us that they didn't get better until they gave it up. We wanted you to have what we have too, which is why we are trying to tell you what we did, in order to get here. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 244 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,100 Amount Saved: $2,574.20 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 21 Mins: 16 Seconds: 41

I do hope the moderators don't delete this thread because I think it's really, really important. This is a support site. It is support for everyone who is trying to overcome an addiction, regardless of what they are using or going through. Sometimes that takes a lot of work. Almost all of us old-timers can testify to the difficulties we have faced and the extreme patience that we have been shown along the way. You may not like the way someone states their issues, and you may not like that they don't hear what you are saying and you may not like the speed at which they come around. But someone at some point will say exactly the words that person needs to hear. Trust me on that. There is another site that doesn't allow people who use nicotine in ANY form to join. Perhaps some folks would be more comfortable there. In any case, you don't have to open the threads if you don't want to read what's in them. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Rusty, it is so like you to be fair and level-headed and compassionate no matter how volatile the subject. Thank you for that. You are right, of course, this is a stop smokin site, we do say do whatever it takes, and tryagain has stopped smoking. The problem I have though, is that this is a support site, not a justify your addiction site. Tryagain has chosen to remain addicted to nicotine, and there's nothing really wrong with that, she's a grown-up & it isn't illegal. It's tryagain's posts that I take exception to because the only support she seems to be looking for is support for that decision. Tryagain seems to want validation that she is exceptional because she has more stress than the rest of us, she has anger issues, she is financially strapped, and on & on. What she appears to be asking for in her posts is agreement that these are good reasons to remain on NRT indefinitely. I find it really frustrating to see the good, caring people here, including you, Rusty, putting time & effort & heart into helping someone who doesn't really want help. Every attempt is either ignored or met with some lame excuse. I don't think that will change until somebody finally does agree with her. This is my last word on the whole subject. I have been judgmental about it & I am obviously not capable of saying anything nice anymore, so as we all earned, best to say nothing. I don't mean to be judgemental at all! I want tryagain to feel successful! Rusty you are right. The point is not to smoke. Tryagain, don't get discouraged! I don't want to send the wrong message either. I was married to an alcoholic for many years. The times he quit drinking, he drank non-alcoholic beer and it was just a matter of time before he was back to the real thing. Some times it lasted as long as 6 months! Addiction is a terrible thing. Second hand smoke is enough to send me into a tizzy! I know I couldn't handle having nicotine in my system again. I don't think any of us have the answers. We merely have our own experiences that we can share. I think we all possess a deep desire to see everyone beat this addiction. Tryagain, take what you need and leave the rest!!! I mean that with all my heart. Do NOT get discouraged.
