For all the newbies.....Look what Joe's "friends" did for him. Bump in memory of Joe, his widow, and the son he never met, and a re-affirmation on the anniversary of 8 weeks of freedom why smoking is no longer an option for me. Thank you for your post. I am in my twenties and always have thought lung cancer cant happen to someone my age. You are an amazing person for handling your situation in such a way that helps others.

I started smoking when I went to college 3 years ago, I'm 21 years old and I have lung cancer. After 3 years of smoking is that not a bummer. Most of my family died from cancer in their 50s, but none of them smoked, I guess I just accelerated the process. The cancer has also spread to my brain and throat, so I'm dizzy every second of my life, I have headaches all day everyday, I cant think straight, I have very memory loss, I can only imagine this must be somewhat what alzheimers is like, to just forget why I walk into a room, to forget peoples names that i've known for years. I got married last year, I have a son on the way, I will never get to see him, he is due in March, doctors say If i'm lucky I'll make it to christmas.... Don't feel sorry for me, I've lived a good life, short, but good. I'm not sure if its the smartest thing but i've refused the chemo treatment, i saw what it did to my dad and my uncle and they both died a few months later even with the treatment, they say this way I'll just slowly start getting more tired and more tired, seems like a more peaceful way to go than being drugged with chemicals....i'll stop rambling...

Calm down folks, I didn't come here for sympothy...just a chance to change anyones mind who was thinking about taking another puff. I do appreciate the concern, but I've accepted it, don't worry about me, worry about the ones who still have a chance, anyone you know who smokes or is thinking about picking it back up...let them know that nothing is worth it, absolutley nothing is so bad that you'd be willing to kill yourself, because essentially, that's what they'd be doing...its really hard for the younger smokers to realize how much they might regret their actions, most, like myself, think "it wont happen to me" or that they'll have time to quit before they get old...it just doesnt always work like that...even it only takes a couple years off your life in the long run, thats still time that you will never be able to spend with the ones you loves. The thing I've come to realize latley, is the worst part does not happen to the smoker who dies...that only effect you, and then you are gone...who it hurts the most is your family and your friends...by choosing to smoke you have selfishly effected hundreds of peoples lives in a negative way...I have effected my wifes life, who will be a widow and my son will have to grow up without a father...and thats scares me far more than the thought of me dieing.

My husband (Joe Cool) died 13 days ago, I found a letter last night and part of it mentioned a "stop smoking website" It took me a few hours of "stop smoking" websites to find this one and run across the name all his friends call him "joe cool". I read the message he sent to you guys about not smoking (excuse anything that doesnt make any sense i'm crying right now) and I just hope that at least 1 person listens to what he had to say and stops smoking. Reading his words....he was so right...he's gone...i'm the one who can't sleep at night, his death has caused me saddness and despair, i'm the one who's going to have to raise our son alone and i'm scared to death. please think about the other lives you will effect if you continue to smoke....my pain, his friends and loved ones pain will never go away...

Dont know what to say except Im really sorry to hear this. My mom is in the very final stages of lung cancer now maybe 2 weeks if that left. I guess all I can say is enjoy whatever quality you may still have left. For God to take you so soon he must really need you up there.
