Hi Stan,
Definitely check out the SSC program if you haven't yet. It is a great tool and help me a ton!
The other things that helped me were lots of cold water, deep breathing, cinnamon candies and this site. Any craving for a cigarette was met with a couple deep breaths and a drink of ice water. It amazes me how well those two things worked for me.
I also spent the bulk of the first few days glued to this site. I believe it gave me strength and confidence.
Hang in there and good luck! :)

OK Stan,
Listen up... I've smoked 2 packs a day for 35 years. I stopped Sunday @ 7PM. Still not smoking. No aids, just the wonderful support of the people here. I let the people I work with know what I'm doing so they don't think I flipped when I let loose. In fact, now they're asking me how long since my last cigarette. Check in here often, it helps a lot. I'm now looking forward to the end of the third day. One more try has helped me over the 1st 2 days. Everyone is behind you.

Welcome Stan. This is my 7th or 8th quit, I've lost count, but a professional I spoke with about my quit told me that studies have shown that it takes several attempts to quit. You learn something from each quit that you can take intot he next quit. Stay strong and remember your reasons for quitting to get you through the first few days. Are you using anything to help you quit or are you going cold turkey?

Hi Stan and welcome --
Make a decision that you're not going to smoke, just for today. One day is doable. Don't worry about tomorrow yet. It's not going to be a fun day, but the good news is -- the sun will go down and the day will end (eventually!) and you can decide that no matter how you feel that the day will end with you not smoking.
Post here over and over today if you need to. There's always someone around with some advice and a kind word.
It does get better if you just don't smoke.

Hi, this is my first day of my fifth quit. I'm hangign on by my finger nails right now. Telling myself every five seconds I don't have to do this, I want to do this.
So I hope to get to know you all well.
