Well, hubby and I both used Chantix. His doctor recommended using it for a full six months because studies had shown that success increases greatly if you use the medication for this time period. This held very true, especially for my husband, who had a couple of slips. I believe that Chantix kept him from throwing in the towel completely because when he did smoke, it didn't give him the satisfaction he wanted.
My experience was very similar to yours. I found that after about four months, I would often forget to take the medication (almost every morning). So, I tried to make sure that I at least took the nighttime dose. Then, I started forgetting to take that dose. After almost a week of not taking the medication at all, I just went ahead and stopped altogether. This was probably after taking the medication for about five months.
