Hard day today. Will it go away?.....

Sparkwins It might be time to check out what triggers the particular craves, e.g., after work, finishing a task, after dinner, etc. Then planning something to combat those particular ones. Remember, this is YOUR quit, nobody else's. Hopefully once your wife sees you being successful it will inspire her to quit too. Many of us have quit with other smokers in the house. It can be done. If it really bothers you, would she be willing to smoke outside or at least when you're not around? By the way..you're almost at two weeks!!!!! Way to go!!!! I have said before, the quitting process is different for each of us. For me on day 20 I knew I was NOT going to die. It was like I turned the corner and could see light at the end of the tunnel. I have had several bad times since then. Brace yourself for milestones and high stress times. It is a learning process that gets easier as you learn. Deep breaths and get away from the smoking! Way tooooo much temptation. I would never make it. Go for a walk, suck on peppermint, kick, scream, yell, break dishes, whatever it takes just don't smoke. congratulations on making it through. Lots of great advice here! Can you ask your wife to take it somewhere else? Perhaps to one room or outside? Using those coping mechanisms will help with your cravings, so yes, make a crave basket for work and home and use it daily. 12 days is great! Reward yourself! Josie, Support Specialist

It gets better, sparkwins. Soon now, you'll notice a big difference. Just hang in, you'll be so glad you did. Congrats on your 12 days, maybe a little reward would help?? thanks for the suggestions, I seem to be chewing on sticks a lot, like toothpics, popsicle sticks, etc. I don't seem to have any extra hunger or want differnet food. food seems to taste better though. WOW! Great suggestions, Grin! I'll add to that list eating sunflower seeds. I think I ate my weight in them the first few months. Sparkwins, You have to change your routine. Do the opposite. never sit in your "smoking chair" again , after dinner when you would ordinarily light up, do something totally different, like the dishes? or take a walk, or go out and use the blower on the deck. How about a hot bath? A walk? Go visit a neighbor you don't even like!! Anything to break up the same old same old and keep you from the ash trays! Just change your old habits and then soon enough, your new habits will not include smoking. I don't mean to make it sound simple because it is not, but with time, it gets easier and it is fun to find new ways to keep yourself from smoking. sounds idiotic but, it really is. As for cravings, cold, cold water worked for me, even crunching ice chips. Also loved real fruit ice pops! Gum, I could not get it spicy enough . Any gum that would burn off my nose hairs and then, make my eyes tear might be enough to satisfy me for a while. And, my favorite, wasabi peas!! crunchy, smokey flavored and hot enough to do all of the above. do your self a favor and stay quit! not easy but sooooooooooooooo worth it!! Hang on Sparkwins! The tedium does go away and then you start to really feel good and it gets better and better, so keep that thought to hang on to. "Smoking is not an option - you will have to do something else! Not One Puff Ever!" Thats what kept me going, and I stil am going... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 234 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,850 Amount Saved: $2,468.70 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 15 Mins: 51 Seconds: 49
