Phoenix, I quit probably about three times before this one. I learned something new from each one. The key is I quit again and again until I did it. I'm now one week and three days into this. I'm more confidant and more determined now then I was before. I was still subservient to the stick. Now I am free because I learned from each quit and instituted it on the next one. You can do the same. Get on the wagon and quit again. You can do this! Phoenix, If you have cigarettes in your home then you are setting yourself up for failure, or maybe you don't want to quit. You can't keep them in the house and expect to quit - you're an addict. You know what crack addicts do with crack? Throw them out. Get all smoking materials out of your house ahead of time. You are allowing that little cigarette to run your life! If you want to be successful you have to do the work, plain and simple. Yes, the tracking of the triggers etc. will help you, but you need to be mentally ready for this as well. Are your sure you are ready for this? Do you really want to quit? Phoenix, If you haven't read Allen Carrs book perhaps this would be a good time. If you have, you might have missed something so read it again. Quit smoking and enjoy your damned coffee! Since we pretty much smoke all the time anyway everything is a trigger and you cant give everything up. All you gotta give up is the stupid cigarettes. For a week you will be living in Bizarro World. Nothing is gonna look right, feel right, taste right. Your body and mind will be in rebellion against the smartest decision you ever made. Do not dwell on smoking! Don't even think of it. When your mind turns that way say NOPE and change the channel, think of something else. Stick something in your mouth and file your nails. Drink water (or coffee), anything but anything to take your mind off it. You can do this. I know you can because I did it and I am no stronger than you are. 5 weeks ago I started every morning with 2 cups of coffee and 5 cigarettes. Then I shoved some chewing tobacco in my mouth and drove to work where I had another cup of coffee and 3 more cigarettes before I really got started working. Then I constantly had the dip in my mouth and a smoke whenever I wanted one. Talk about a desperate addict! I didn't even spit! I swallowed it to be sure I got ALL the nicotine from the chew. Yup you can do it. It aint easy and it aint fun but the rewards are amazing. Phoenix, make the commitment, do the program, list your reasons to quit, consider your triggers & be prepared for them with coping strategies. Read and post and cuss and cry and sleep and eat the kitchen sink. Reward yourself, be good to yourself, and think of all the positive things that will come from your quit. When you want to quit more than you want to smoke, all of that will work. The best thing for me to head off craves is drinking water and walks. There is a big big difference when I don't do both of those things. When I am out of wack I know I need water of some form of exercise. Works every time for me. There is something about a long walk or a 30 minute workout that makes you feel alive. Glad you are back. But like Lainey said do some reading here and really focus on why you want to quit. you can do this phoenix. If you need to sleep extra hours, go ahead and do that. You need to pamper yourself...the first 2 weeks, especially. Go to the movie theater, or the library, or lay in bed..., as lady says, kick, scream, cry, break plates, whatever you have to do, but don't smoke!!! That is the only way (unfortunately) that we will ever get free from this addiction...one minute at a time. You could try an exercise bike if you're able. I picked up a Vitamaster and it has helped me immensely. Both as a morning stimulant and a way to lose weight after quitting. I gained around 70 pounds but have since taken it off with morning exercise and eating better. I was doing similar stuff and couldn't get a fix on the day until I had a couple cups of coffee. But I couldn't have coffee without a cigarette. So that kept me from quitting smoking, until I realized I didn't need either of them and quit both caffeine and tobacco. I wish you good luck on your journey and hope you decide to be healthy and quit the filthy habit. This lethargy thing is really hard for some people. It was for me. I had to dedicate a lot of time to doing nothing at the beginning! But somehow you have to accommodate that and when you get beyond it you will have your own energy and stimulus simply from not smoking and how good it makes you feel. Honest! Good luck. WTG Phoenix. Glad to see you are right back to quitting. For me, it was all about my mindset that allowed me to be successful this time around. There were a few uncomfortable days for sure but that's exactly what they were, uncomfortable. Remember your tools and stratagies. Stay close to this site. Drink, eat, walk, whatever, but most of all keep your head in the right place, stay positive and stay focused and you will do great. In a thread a day or two ago Aloha promised to post before she smoked, wait for five replies and then decide. Think you can do that? Here, I'll promise with you... I promise that before I smoke I will post on the SSC with "help" in the title, wait for five replies, do whatever is suggested and then decide if I still want to smoke. Now you... TODAY IS A NEW DAY ONE!!! DARN IT. I finished that pack I bought yesterday afternoon. Now I'm one hour into a quit. I'm headed out to the health food store to see if they can suggest a mild stimulant. (I am allergic to tea) That'll be my morning exercise - the store's a mile away. Vitamin B is good for energy. So I took one. One hour at a time. 15 minutes, if I have to. I'll keep quitting 'til I get it right! darn it! phoenix
