yep, rusty pretty much summed it up. We're all here to support you in doing this, ski, so let us know if you need any help. I'm going to bump up a thread (because I am the queeen of the bumps) called "This is Why You Think about Smoking" that talks about those preprogrammed thougths. Hi Ski, I am using Chantix and it really has helped me, how ever you have to do some work along with the Chantix stay close to this site and take it minute by minute until you feel better the first week is the hardest if you make up your mind you want to be a non smoker you will be. Ski, there are several people here who successfully used Chantix and they will be along shortly. Meanwhile, here's the scoop. Smoking isn't just a habit, it's also an addiction. It will take 3-5 days for the nicotine to go and then the rest of the "reprogramming." Look at it this way: your subconscious thinks that when you get in the car, or after finishing a meal or whatever, it's time for a smoke. It will only take a few times of NOT smoking when you drive to re-educate your subconscious. It only took me about two car trips to work to get that straight. Meals were a little more difficult, but each time you forego smoking, the closer you are to breaking that part of the habit. Drink lots of water...that will really help you. Watch your caffeine intake, change your routines. These will all help you. Also use the Quit Program Workbook over on the left -- it's great and you will learn a lot. Just holler if you need some help or a shoulder to lean on. Gonna try this again, as of this posting I have gone about 60 hours without smoking. This time I'm trying Chantix, been taking it 6 days right now, it seems to help some, but the impulse to smoke is very strong. I failed in my last attempt, hoping this one goes better. 31 years of smoking, its become a habit of nature as my doctor tells me, he tells me breaking the nicotine habit will be easy, its the times I have pre programmed myself to smoke that will be hard, so far he appears to be right. Trying hard candy for those times, its not the same...
