Fighting off my cravings

16 years ago 0 1093 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Candi! I just thought I'd stop and tell you to hang in there. I'm only a few days ahead of you but it is much easier already. I remember the 9th & 10th days being really tough and feeling so exhausted from fighting and so depressed that it was so hard. And then...I was fine. Give yourself credit and lots of praise for putting yourself through this and take it easy. It'll be better before you know it. And, I agree w/ Pen. Maybe a little conversation with your husband...? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 630 Amount Saved: $122.85 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 21 Mins: 52 Seconds: 55

Candi, we used to call week two Heck week (week one being Hell week) where cravings can come out of nowhere to hit you. So hold tight, you will get through it, and gradually it gets easier. It is always sad (and a bit scary) when you see others lose a long term quit. But for the most part that is due to one of two reasons: 1) The person hits a very stressful time and thinks that smoking will "help" - by the time that they realise it was no help whatsoever, they are hooked in again. or 2) They believe that after a period of being quit that "just one" won't hurt - that re-awakens the nicotine addiction. Unless drastic action is taken there will be "just one more" again and again until fairly quickly the quit is lost. You must acknowledge the fact that you are a nicotine addict, that for you there can never be "just one" and make NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) your watchword. But I do promise if you stick with it, that there will come a day when if you do ever think about smoking, it will be with gratitude that you are free of the tyranny of being a smoker. I'm chasing you around the boards!!!! Hi candi, You won't believe me after 9 days but IT DOES GET EASIER, it just takes time. You have to put the work in to realise the rewards and the rewards are there waiting for you, believe me. For now you have to grit your teeth and bear it like those last push-ups in a set, like the dentist's drill and like winter weather when all you want is sun! Tough it out minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and it will get easier IF you stick with it. Oh and ask hubby to be more thoughful and keep his cigarettes out of your way. Good Luck Penitent :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1215 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24,300 Amount Saved: 6,075.00 Life Gained: Days: 195 Hrs: 3 Mins: 32 Seconds: 58

I had some strong cravings this evening. My husband left his cigarettes out on the table next to me i wouldnt even look at them. I knew they were right there and my craving became sronger and stronger. I told my son to put the pack of cigarettes on my husband dresser so they wouldnt temp me. But my cravings today just seem like they wont go away. Its like i have the good angel and the devil on my shoulder telling me to smoke and the other telling me dont destroy all that you accomplished you can do just stay focused. Still smoke free but i afraid i be fighting off this urge for the rest of my life. My sister quite for 1 year and then she got into a car accident and she been smoking a pack a day now for almost a year. I just keep focusing on the future i have with my kids and i try to look up all the pics of smokers long to help keep me focused. My fear is going back to smoking one day please tell me it gets easier My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 360 Amount Saved: $70.20 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 7 Seconds: 44
