& the funny thing is.. here in NZ it is pretty much non smoking everywhere esp. in or around the workplace. Smokers are forced to go to designated areas outside of bars, restaurants etc & as usual where there's smokers is were the action is so.... non-smokers are now gathering in these areas also, only thing is now the non-smokers are complaining that it's too smokey in the designated outside areas! this is getting a bit rediculous tbh My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 979 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34,265 Amount Saved: $6,363.50 Life Gained: Days: 139 Hrs: 21 Mins: 30 Seconds: 14

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

You're right, Lainey. Governments and corporations should be doing more, or doing things differently. If I were an alcoholic or a crack addict, my employer would pay for treatment & my job would be waiting when I was finished. It's not right! I don't like the way they are pushing smokers out the door and into the gutter and going about it the wrong way. Why are cigarettes still on the shelves? What needs to happen, is for smokers to start suing the governments for allowing cigs to be sold to the public at all. How many lawsuits have there been from other products that cause disease or problems, not any where near as bad as tobacco? And how many heroine addicts are they refusing insurance to, how many cocaine addicts are they refusing to insure. It just seems to me that a bad can of worms has been opened here and the humanness is gone. We of all people should know this, smokers are addicts and when is the world going to wake up to that fact???? Is this how the world deals with addicts, push them out of society and into the street??? I guess so. Who is going to stand up for these addicts? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 185 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,625 Amount Saved: $1,951.75 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 16 Mins: 23 Seconds: 31

Hi John, Yeah, they are making it harder to smoke everywhere. The thing I have noticed about not smoking is how it makes you realize all the other ways you can and should take care of yourself. It's easy looking back at just how self destructing smoking is. And to think I once thought of it as pleasure !! Here are some subjects that came up today. Microwave popcorn could be blamed for lung cancer. Strange, I know We also heard that some insurance companies will soon no longer insure smokers. Marriott Hotels has announced that all the rooms in all their hotels will now be NON-SMOKING. You are not even allowed to smoke on the balconies or anywhere on the property. (they didn't mention any other balcony activities being restricted however) WAKE MED Raleigh NC, not able to smoke anywhere on any of their properties. People I know said is was somthing to see, people in johnnies holding their IV bottles on the side of the road having a cigarette. Truly pathetic. Many companies already reserve the right to not hire you if you are a smoker. A 60 cent per pack sales tax will soon be added to cigarettes in NC. It is like, attack on the smokers but even my doctor confirms that it is obesity that is the number one threat not smoking! We all know how bad smoking is for us, now to find out that the weight gain is worse I have to work twice as hard to get rid of that gut! Gosh, ya know.... ya finish one thing... and then they pick on ya for another! Okay, okay, I am getting on the BowFlex already!! Anyone else here feeling the pain? My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 126 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,150 Amount Saved: $441.00 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 12 Mins: 30 Seconds: 18
