Well, that's a very good point, John. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that, either.
I know that about 75% of my teenage life was conducted well below the parental radar, & as you said, Lainey, you discouraged all your kids from smoking but one of them started anyway. I think most parents are responsible with their kids about the smoking issue and the little darlings do it as a way to rebel. And it's a pretty easy & visible form of rebellion.
Of course, we can't expect the kids themselves to do the right thing. They have enough to deal with, what with the seething hormones and keeping track of whether it's cool to show your underwear this week.
I don't know what the answer is but I believe the sale of cigarettes should be much more strictly regulated than it is now. I don't think you should be able to buy them at gas stations & corner stores. I think they should only be sold at liquor stores or something like that.
