Junkie thoughts running wild

16 years ago 0 3541 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Starrider, if the cats, snakes, birds, llama's & stick people are all telling you you can do it, one of 3 things must be true. 1.You are having one of those really wild, vivid dreams some of us get, 2.you are drunk at the zoo and should get a cab right now, or 3.THEY ARE RIGHT AND YOU CAN DO IT!! Driving was a big trigger for me and because I was training at a branch on the other end of the city, I ahd to do a lot of it at the start of this quit. I can tell you that my nozzly thing and coffee straws saved my quit as well as the lives of a considerable number of a$$-hat drivers. Try those, try taking a different route to work & try shouting WOOHOO!! because you can't feel bad when you're shouting WOOHOO!! You're doing great, keep it up! Starrider All of these are good suggestions. I'm glad you're taking time to think about what is triggering these thoughts. It may be that since you have caved at about this time before, you associate the thoughts with caving. I bumped up a thread for you "This is Why You Think About Smoking." It helped explain it to me. That being said, here's another couple of suggestions. Clean your car out this weekend and put potpourri in the ashtray..make sure you always bring something with you when you drive to replace the cigs....a water bottle (remember nozzly things), carrot sticks, a cut straw. And, reward yourself for getting through these few days! The urges will pass, and when they do you will feel proud for having resisted...and so will we. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 169 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,760 Amount Saved: $1,149.20 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 15 Mins: 23 Seconds: 36

starrider, Your doing great, resisit the urge think of something else. I know its hard as I have been going through a tuff past couple days myself. You have to do everything you can not to think about it. I find it hard not to have one on the way to work, so I have been riding my bike to work to take my mind off of it. Keep up the good work. Distractions! Create distractions, it helps. Do something else. sit down and make a list of things you always wanted to get done at home, rearannge your closet, brush the cat....do your nails...anything like that. Just do something. Anything that changes your routine will work. Also deep breathing. Do those exercises for deep breathing, they really help too! You need to keep a list of these straegies somewhere to pop out whne you need them so you can dive in. "Smoking is not an option - so do something else instead" :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 186 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,650 Amount Saved: $1,962.30 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 18 Mins: 33 Seconds: 38

starrider, You are doing fabulous! Junkie thoughts happen to everyone that has quit, it is just that they get further apart and they seem more ridiculous when you gain some distance from them. At 2 weeks you are doing great! Just breathe deep and let that Junkie plot all he wants cause he ain't gonna beat you! Hi there Starider.. can i say what a cute little kitty These conversations you are having with yourself.... don't talk out loud cos like i did once... i got some pretty weird looks. You need to work at 'changing the channel' - it helps to think of something else in these moments & Soon it will become second nature. It's a matter of training the brain to think of something else when 'it' pops into your head, some people seem to be better at it than others. It will get easier, just need to focus on whats happening around you. congrats on the stats My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 979 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34,265 Amount Saved: $6,363.50 Life Gained: Days: 139 Hrs: 22 Mins: 48 Seconds: 58

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

16 years ago 0 288 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
hi everybody, this morning i battled with the junkie really fierce. those thoughts bombarded my brain, you know the ones...'don't you want a cig on the way to work'..c'mon you can always quit again tomorrow'...just one won't kill you'..etc. etc.etc. i can talk myself into anything real easy. i did all i could do to not stop and get some smokes on the way to work. driving is still a big trigger for me, that made it that much harder. i finally made it to work and i felt safe, at least for 8 hours. when i was on my morning walk, i was thinking about why i was obsessed with smoking today. i realized that i am coming up on 2 weeks quit and that is the time that i would have that junkie thinking in the past. i think there was one other time i made it past that. do you think its all in my head or is there some reason why its happening now? i can't figure it out, i DON'T want to smoke, i will NOT smoke, but this is driving me absolutely crazy! what is your take on it. i could use some help.
