Hi One More Time.. This is my 3rd quit in 12 months.. Third time should be a charm!! Thanks for bring up the three month triggers.. I lost my quit last year after 3 months... I was just a little too cocky.. I thought I could have one puff!! Ha Ha Ha.. Brinat, I think you may be right.. we need to stay on this site and read and post.. when we think we have made it... I certainly do not want to go through this again... EVER!!! One More... I am with you. I have had many quits in the past and the first couple months are pretty easy, I have gotten as far as 7 and 9 months and caved. Most of my quits, however, only last about 3 months or so. I think it always happens when I haven't gotten so far and see someone smoking and maybe I have had a couple drinks and my brain says "I can have a couple drags, I'm drinking and I have come this far, so I can stay quit in the morning" I can't seem to stay quit the next morning though. I know that time will come again and I think we just need to get ready and in the right frame of mind to tackle it when it does come. Let's make a packed, when the 3 month mark hits, lets double our posts to avoid the temptation!! There is a well known danger spot at the 3 month mark. Many quits end around that time. I think part of the reason is that by then the quitter is feeling like the quit process should be over and done with, then some trigger comes along and WHAM knocks them for a loop. Perhaps it is a season change, but I don't think so. I think it has more to do with the brain's recovery, subtle changes that have a big effect. Examine your previous attempts and see what happened to cause you to relapse. Did you get depressed, overly stressed, tired of the fight, or ??? If you can pinpoint something in particular, then you can prepare for it in advance. Don't forget, though, that this is a brand new quit with a brand new outcome. Don't let the past define your future. Just because you stumbled before does not mean you will stumble this time. Don't focus on that 3 month mark, but focus on the 6 month mark or the 1 year mark. Know that you will pass the danger spot and move on to these new goals. You can do it. You will do it. Believe. OK, at the risk of sounding arrogant, I find the first two weeks a breeze. Yes, I am only on day 2. But I've done this before...really, it's not hard for me. What is hard is around month 3 or 4. This is when I always cave. And yes, I've done this a few times already. Why is it so hard then, when I've gotten so far? I always, always crash after 3 months......yes, this time will be different. Yes, I will be positive and remain focused. Any tips in advance to help me over the three-month hump? Anyone else find the first two months a breeze and then cave? Just to know that I'm not alone here might help...
